G'day guys,

I'm a newbe and still on my first kite and board which I have had for about a year and a half. Was just wondering how long you should keep your gear for as to not loose too much money on it.

Cheers

seems like if its older than 2years, don't bother. Ride it till it dies, unless you need pocket change.

depemds on the condition that you keep it in... you are probably best selling your gear before its more than 2 seasons old ie before the 09 gear comes out. if you let us know what you got i can probably give you a good idea what you should sell it for.

It also depends what brand kite it is and the success of that particular model.

Slingshot, North and F-one seem to hold their value really well, however the Slingy Link was bashed to death and has really bad resale value. However the Revs were a huge success and will hold their value really well. Likewise the Rebel and Bandit were a huge success and will hold their value well too.

Whereas Airush kites seem to loose their value alot faster, which is strange because they make really great kites. I guess its from the poor exposure and colour schemes.

Kites seem to nearly half in value every year. They probably loose about %40 of their value each year depending on the make and model.

What kites do you have?

Look through the buy and sell section. 2006 kites are going for an average of $600 and 2007 kites somewhere between $700 to $900. So if your kite is an 07 model and in good condition, now may be a good time to sell. If it's an 06 model, you may have waited too long.

Saying that though, there is only a couple hundred difference between the years so keeping for another year may be a good option.

.....

$1,800 new, $800 for a 1 year old kite, $400 for a 2 year old kite
thats if you can sell it
its a good time to buy second hand 1 year old kites, now the designs are pretty good on most models. if you get a good new kite and are happy with it, you might be better off to keep for three years then bin it after. then again 2 kites a year is only a $2000 cost plus board and harness - so its still cheap compared to other sports like motorbikes, sailing, boating,
