Cant say I've had too many bad experiences whilst doing, other than a few tangles and minor mishaps, but has anyone else had a go at kite fishing and had success?

Heres a video catching a tuna, have caught a few spanish mackerel, tuna ect

I've thought about towing a lure but never thought you could actually do it,.. You have no idea how impressed I am at your effort. Legendary!!

Fark yeah, top job. I though you were going to hook it on then just tow it straight back to the beach on the lure. (fk all chance of beaching one like that though i guess!) splashing around on the surface reeling in a tuna with half a fishing rod whilst floating on a strapless board with a kite to contend with 2 ks out to sea is flat out nuts, good to see.

Not for me though i don't like eating fish that much!

What sort of lures are you towing and i'm assuming they go ok at speed? I used to troll leadhead jigs at high speed but never anything else. Is it an hour+ of kiting or pretty quick for the hits? I've only ever fished the GBR in QLD but i'd imagine there are plenty of macs and tuna around? Far more than Perth thats for sure.

Beefarmer raises an interesting question though, maybe you could run 25m of 200lb+ mono off your harness and skull drag them back in? Ever tried that? Mac's give up pretty quick but I guess you then have to worry about needing gloves, carrying a bigger knife, someone landing the kite straight away, the right beach etc etc.

I think it's inevitable you'll get sharked so i guess you just **** yourself, drop the rod and go?

Had a bit of fun at cocoa keeling rigging mike walkers ozone edge rigging a lure trying to catch a big wahoo that was ghosting around, think it was too quick, I was changing the length off his Kite on the beach with 2 whopping big trebles dangling from a gusting Kite, funny to see

Above is the most "hardcore" kiting I've ever seen!

The hook ends up ripping out if drag them back into shore. Sometimes ill hook up about 10km offshore. Easier to pull it up, and hang it by the tail over the shoulder.

I don't eat fish either :D its the fun of catching them though!

I got one off mermaid reef, and snapped off a few times by what I think is big wahoo! Cant keep upto the float once it starts running! keep trying

Only two other idiots like myself, Dave and Ryan. They have both got Spanish in too.

Using halo lures, onto wire leader, then onto rope now ( was using the rod and reel with 200pound but kept getting snapped off on big things)
got onto a few big things that have taken my float down and under for a while, and snapped so im assuming they are something decent anyway.

You tend to loose them in the shore break, or the hook rips out, have got one in successfully by doing that though.

Im looking forward to getting sharked! It would be epic to lay in the water and watch that go down underneath you

I don't know how you fit into them board shorts with gonads like that.

Seriously mad skills, but damn. So much could go wrong. Imagine a Big Mac running through your kite lines when your kite is down, or wrapping quickly around your leg rope for a few thrilling moments. I hope you have a good sharp knife handy. Saying all that, gotta say again how skilful that is. Love Spanish Mac to eat!!!

Yep, watched the video and couldn't help thinking "this is crazy". Apart from the fact I'd be exhausted after this, takes huge kahunnas to sit stationary on a board and bring a large fish in. Would certainly attract sharks, not if, but WHEN you get sharked, hope you don't get hurt and hope you have the video for us.

Iv been waiting for Matty to write an autobiography. Will be a hell of a funny read. Legend.

Cheers matt. I tried explaining to a bloke down in southern nsw how you were trawling then when a bite hits you release a float and it pulls the fish to the surface. Not sure if that was accurate of how it works but sounded good at the time. Old mate just had a shark hook on a 5 meter line no floats seemed a bit dodgey and thought he was only one doing it so was surprised to hear there was a few nutters in goldy giving it a go.
