Having been through too many pumps (sometimes after only 1-week) I'm in the market for a reliable pump! Does such a pump exist or would someone like to tell me "your dreamin"?

i have had the same pump for three years, wot are u doin with them ?

Breakin em! Can you name your 3-year old pump or is it a 'secret pump'?

Mine only starts playing up if I don't clean it regularly. A wipe out and some vegetable oil or silicon grease on the seals makes it like new again.

I get 3 months tops.

You gotta show your pump some love! DOn't just chuck it on the sandy beach after inflation. PLace it in the bag out of the sand, don't let it fall over and get sand in the inlet.

Once a month unscrew the top and spray a bit of silicone lube after giving it a clean out.

Also, before you insert the nozzle into the bladder, give it a quick pump to get out any sand that is in the nozzle from where you left it on the beach. The amount of sand I find in bladders when doing repairs astounds me at times.

Pumps - treat them mean and keep them keen.

Make a little filter outta a bit of material an tape it over the intake. Keeps sand out.

I have found that the quality of the rubber used in new pumps and seals in general is extremely poor. 3 years ago pumps would last.
It comes down to, no quality control china !!

But very cheap and made for a bowl of rice a day.

Yep, a single $12 can of silicone spray will keep you going for years.

Keeping the sand out of your pump, hose and kite should be a non-negotiable part of your setup routine.

I clean and lube my pumps whenever they feel even slightly rough and have never had a failure.

A couple of pumps have had burrs on the shaft. If so, just wipe the lube off, carefully sand the burr off with fine sandpaper, wipe sandings off and re-lube.

Also, holding the handles close to the centre will keep the load as centred as possible on the handle and shaft.

come back to reality mate , everything is made in china these days and there is nothing wrong with the quality . Maybe years ago the quality sucked arse but not anymore .

yep, basically i live for threads about pump maintenance so i get to use words like shaft, piston, handle, lube, $12, and sandpaper. these are a few of my favourite things.

no secret "Best", no maintainence(have lubed once) i kite avg twice/three times a week in summer and give the baby a big rest over winter

i am wondering if i am to soft, never having broke it

my solution was to stop lending my pump to all the tourists who are to lazy to bring their own over.

especially when the same guys ask every single day and pump with 3 kites each everytime then when it stopped working properly they dont even bother returning it just dumped it somewhere for me to find. that was 2x brand new slingshot pumps destoryed in 3 weeks over Dec/Jan.

my kmart coleman pump has now lasted 2 months and going strong.

Got a K Mart pump I have used for three years now, lubricated once. Only bought it for the nozzle, was 20 bucks cheaper than the you beaut camping model that bust shortly after buying the K mart one.

Every now and then I have a win!

Stabber has an electric one which is why he has to keep buying new wet suits

Coleman, they keep your beer cold, and make a ripper pump for about $20

I go a Coleman, from BCF, it's lasted years and it's a bit bigger then most kite brand pumps so it doesn't take as long to inflate your kite

But it prob all comes down to how you stash them once you've finished inflating and are ready to fly. Of coarse, if you throw it up on the dune near your bag or something, you might find it'll play up a bit

That's my problem - too keen to get out, I lob the kite in the dunes and hop on the board!
