Travelling to Cocos in July and can not wait!

Looking for advise on a Board bag or Golf Bag to carry Board, Kites and other gear. Any tips on what to look for in these bags. Prefer to take rather than hire equipment.

how are you getting there, I want to go but don't no what plane mob go's over there?

Careful about taking a golf bag - went there a few years back when National Jet did the service.

Was sitting in the plane looking out the window as they offloaded my golfbag with all my kites and board. Apparently they didn't have enough room for it because it was large.

Went the next year with kites and board in individual bags - no problems getting them on as the bags were smaller.

Also look out for weight restrictions, was expensive.

I've traveled with this bag and it's awesome, can fit 3 to 4 kites + harness + 1 board + 2 bars and a few clothes just around 23 kg. The wheels and frame make it easy to carry over short-medium distances.

Cocos Flights from Perth are roughly $500 one way (more or less $50) and include 1x 23 kg check-in baggage. If you're afraid of being over or just want to bring more gear, just pre-pay an extra 23kg bag for $55 (each way). I double checked with Virgin yesterday and even for Cocos there doesn't seem to be any worries for having up to 3 x 23 kg checked in baggage!

Just make sure you're not over 23kg, virgin started to be pretty specific with this rule over the last year or so. They won't let you check-in even if you have 1kg over (unless you pay of course $30 per KG from memory)! Last time I had to wear my harness on the plane as I was 2kg over I could be wrong but Virgin doesn't seem to have any restriction with size or length of checked-in baggage, just weight limits. I traveled with Virgin all the time always with oversize baggage and never had an issue with size or length.

Has anyone tried vacume packing a kite? With big race boats we vacume pack the spare sails, they pack down to a remarkably small size!
With the right bag/adapter you could use the standard kite pump.

have a cracking bag i designed and got made whist o/s its everything i need, just something to think about the next time you head away, mine is deep enough for two boards and three kites or two and gear, super light with locking zips and protective insert to separate boards

Virgin are good with baggage, just pre pay if you want to take more than the 23kg checked, but remember you can take around 7-10kg carryon, 7kg in a backpack and "personal item, which can still be a laptop bag with all your chargers and other stuff.
Drop down to KP and check out the large range of bags we have, and get some advice on how to pack as well.
