What's the RRP of the bar Nik?

Functionality changing V, fifth line etc..auto untwist, suicide ring kept in place...some other pretty good features on top of the dep system.

I usually just demo kites, very keen to try the clicker bar.

I'm wondering how it will respond to sand in the mechanism. How much $ ? I think the colours need to be stronger so that you can tell port from starboard more easily.
Good idea to have the window along the bar. Will be interesting to see how durable it is over several seasons.

Sounds very nice. It is surprising that North are bringing out something complex and innovative when they have lagged behind every other innovation in the history of kiteboarding.

Durability and resistance to sand?
Width adjustment?
Protection from board damage from bar end fittings?
What's the little handle for at the top of the depower line? (Manual landing line?)
Show the safety in operation?

Wonder how those ceramic bearings for the auto front line untwist function will go with sand etc...

I also wonder if the V adjustment for a loaded fifth goes high enough...or will north be redesigning the rebel and vegas to suite a lower Y?

Been in testing for a few years now. We first used it in Aus mid 2015. Demo bars doing the rounds for a year with specific instructions to abuse and not clean.

Yes stopper is variable. You can punch through it if needed.Open bearings are self cleaning.

Yes the V height can be adjusted to suit current North kites.

So please BRISKITES tell us what the damage is? $$$$???? Let it out......

Sadly, the kite industry overall is suffering. Poor sales, costs are going up and up. Even kite shops are hardly making a margin any more - selling old stock at cost price just to reclaim their costs. I challenge anyone out there doing it well in this industry - unless you're in Bali and living off the continuous tourist dollar streaming in on a daily basis, and even there kite equipment sales are down. They are surviving on tours, lessons, etc.

BrisKites - how the effen are you still in business?

ps. But you have to click both ends of the bar to do what I can do in less than 1 second by pulling the trim strap.!?!?!?

will reserve judment until i try it, but i have some serious hesitations about the internals from a season or 2 abuse

what are the maintenance requirements briskites?

side note: in the vid, they mention that this is the first bar ever with steering line trim adjustment.........ahhhhhhhhhhhh what about NORTHS very own 2001 bar, does that count?

No BS, what i actually liked most was the ability to adjust the length of the Y

with the right adjustment options that could be very handy for fine tuning

Well you can always still get the original design, I think the cost hasn't gone up from last year, which probably makes it almost cheaper than the other mainstream brands now...not sure.

I'm wondering.... if this might be a bar someone buys and keeps it for a number of seasons, just changing the lines, given it may be used on most kites out there and given the durability of the internals. Only time will tell I suppose. I must say it looks a bloody nice piece of functional equipment and if I could afford one, i'd probably think about it.

on a side note...

..saw a dude standing on the road today with a sign saying 'need work' and his number. Haven't seen that before around here, maybe the squeeze is truly on at the moment.

DanozDirect - You don't click both ends of the bar. The left line winds through the centre of the bar, you just adjust the one end. It's about average as far as how long it takes to adjust to your desired power, so your point there is a bit mute.

This design has been 7 years in development. Every bar on the market breaks over time. We're playing in some of the harshest conditions with UV, salt and sand all detrimental to every piece of equipment we use. The running maintenance and ease of replacement of parts is no harder on this bar than any other bar on the market.

lostatsea - yeah it's super easy to adjust the Y split, and adding the 5th line literally takes about 60 seconds.

The bar is expensive, but remember North isn't forcing anyone to buy it. They still are providing the Trust Bar at the same price as last year, and is comparable in price to the other big brands.

How does the trimming work ? It winds up line on both back lines ? That would be very difficult to clean up/repair yourself...

The trim unit winds in both lines, via a connector through the bar.

Ok so it's on the left side or right side? What if you're left-handed? How do you hold the bar when turning the dial, especially if covered in sand?!

Nah! Too much complexity "hidden" behind rubbery bits.

I'll stick to my simple clam-cleat bars. They are fine and work and are a 1/3 of what you're asking.

Now this is simplicity ...

It's on the right hand side of the bar. We've had lefty's and righty's use it, I haven't heard any poor feedback from lefty's about it yet.

That LF bar you posted is no more complicated or simple than the current NKB Trust Bar, and probably a lot of other bars.
I totally agree that more moving parts can be a total fail if not enough R&D has been done. However, any brand who would invest this much time and money would surely have a good idea how it goes for durability.

... just wondering, how does the depower 'click' work with slack lines, does it still operate normally, does it need a bit of back line pressure to operate, i.e. your preparing for launching of kite and you want it depowered it before hand?

There's nothing 'pushing' the line out of the bar to depower, so yeah you'll need a tiny bit of back line pressure. The same as if your bar is depowered and you want to power it up before launching (say it was windy last time you used it, now it's light), you just grab the back lines and pull, or i stand on the lead lines as i pick it up and press the button.

It is yet another single plastic tube with the safety line down the middle. It's about time. The old multiple ropes through a stick systems have always sucked.

I have to say I have always been amused when fans of one bar or another have said their favourite is the best when it's just another one with 3 bits of rope going through a stick.

At least we're getting a bit of choice now. There's 5 plastic enclosed systems with the safety down the middle that I am aware of(Cabrinha, North, Liquid Force, RRD and CrazyFly).
