The kites are great now, future developments should be focussed on teleportation devices so that kitesurfing on lunch breaks becomes feasible.
Or lobbying the superannuation lawmakers so we can extract $3000 per year to spend on gear.
Surely could be lobbied on the fitness, health and well being platform taking strain of the hospital system from people keeping fit doing such sports. Surely ....
Ps until there is a significant breakthrough in materials technology then kites will not advance much from here. Lighter and stronger is needed.
Or maybe a complete paradigm shift in design and construction. But I'm too dumb too know what that could look like.

The use of foils is really where the main evolution of this sport has been for the last three or so years and from my experience they are now at the point the mass market (god help us) will start taking them up (kind of like when kites become super easy to use 2011 and on).
That will be an interesting space to watch as the middle aged kook runs through a lineup out of control with an axe strapped to their surburbian white weak as piss couch potatoes legs.
