Been to my old home spot of Altona yesterday for the first time in 7 years (moved overseas), expected it to be absolutely packed given 25+ knots Easterlies - however to my surprise, there was very little going on?!
Has kiting gone down here since, or what's the scene here like nowadays?
For the record in Germany, kiting totally exploded in the last few years, so on a spot and day like that, there would've been easily over 100 kites on the beach.

Maybe they didn't get the memo that the worlds longest lockdowns ended?

Kitesurfing has definitely been on the decline here for years and now there are as many dingers as kiters these days if not more. It may be because there are less backpackers / travellers or people getting bored of it (not sure how that's possible).

The gusty ESE yesterday was not ideal for most, I was at port melb and it was 20-35kn gusts with maybe 5-6 kiters out. Not sure if Altona has cleaner wind?

There were quite a few crew at MKH parma night last night so the community is still alive and well, and KR have monthly social nights. There are also KA/KBV events happening here and there.

Dunno, I suppose if there's any sport in the world that can be considered Covid safe, kitesurfing would probably be it lol

@Peahi
Interesting.. yeah on an ESE, Altona would have hands down much more consistent winds than Port Melbourne. Hence I was surprised to see so few out there.

Lockdowns didn't stop us kitesurfing, only how far you could travel so made winter more challenging with the northerlies
