Hi all,

I'd like to share a free DYI video of a simple method to transform your long leash and turn it into a short leash.

If like most kiters you never unhook, you soon realize that long leashes are pointless and less safe. If like me, you've been kiting for a long time, chances are you have many long leashes and a few spare parts laying around. You will need two things before you attempt this mod 1) a short section of Dyneema (3 or 4mm thick) with larks heads at both ends and 2) a stainless steel ring (20mm diameter more or less).

I've transformed 5 long leashes to short leashes so far using this method with great success. Mostly using Ozone leashes, however, It can be done with other brands of leashes as well.

Needless to say that if you don't have the right spare parts OR if you have ANY doubts in your ability to do this, please don't try this. Also note that you will no longer be able to use your long leash after that.

I've been able to do it with other types of leashes as well, however, it was more complex and time-consuming. The Ozone one was by far the easiest and quickest to modify.

I remember a girl with a similar problem sept the other way around

The concept is good and I have made a short leash however retained a bit of bungee.
Is it necessary to have a bit of shock adsorbtion?

I actually stumbled across this video today and had been wanting to make a short leash for some time.

As i had a spare Ion leash and didn't want to cut up my Ozone leash I went to work on the Ion one.

20 minutes later I had a short leash. No need to add extra Dyneema as the Ion leash had Dyneema loops on both ends. I pretty much just removed the elastic and 2mm Dyneema line that ran between the two ends. Then treaded on into the other. Job done.

I found the easiest leach to modify, was from north ... if you carefully cut away the stitching you fine a nice loop to connect the existing hook, or one of choice . cheers
