Under another topic (Useful wind info), it was posted that the Hillarys graph (WA weather) should be dropped, as it's reading consistently low due to being sheltered from the wind.

I agree. It was put it up in the hope that it would be better than nothing, but .. not really turning out that way.

If you really enjoy the Hillary meter & want it to stay online, speak up now!

I'm voting to keep it. Sure no one kites there but it def gives a better idea what's happening along the coast between swannys and ocean reef provided it is fixed to read true.

When I'm in Perth, I mostly go out at Scarbs or Melville, the ocean reef chart seems a pretty good indicator for the coast, and the Melville report, while not perfect is good data for Melville. I just don't look at the charts that are not relevant.

Does that mean the Swannie wind meter will go too? it's readings are always low.

What happened to the two wind meters around Leighton/Freo RPYC???

So it's gone? Just like that? Who thought installing a wind meter to read accurately would be difficult?

I think it maybe only us mob who are addicted in wind. The rest of the population seem to more interested in temperature, rain and barometers.

It can be a challenge to find a location which is secure, has power, has interweb & maintainable/servicable. A camera was installed at a local becah in the "best" spot, and it didn't last 3 days before it was stoned to death by locals.

Swannies always been a good indicator, even tho 'off' in some directions. The Hillarys one is just no good for wind. Great temperature reading though!
The other two were installed for the Perth2011 World Sailing Championships, so we're grateful to have had them for as long as we did.

There's word that Kiteoceanics will be installing a temporary one for Leighton.. hopefully that will appear for a whiles.

Who pays (paid) for the Hillary's one?

There's some pretty good sensors and telemetry gear around these days - I would've thought (in fact, I'm pretty much certain) that for $1-2k hardware costs and $5-10/month you could get a good, (virtually) maintenance free set up that was independent of power and internet. But maybe that's way outside of what's within the budget?

23.9 knots offshore, I wouldn't give it more than 16-18 on the beach given the grovelling the guy on the 10m cat is doing as I type. I'd pump up for 23.9 but I'm too fat for 16-18
