Just wondering if anyone has been through laparoscopic Inguinal hernia operations and what they recover time was like? I have two small hernias (either side)in my groin which are causing pain into my balls and groin. Booked in to get it fixed in a few days. Just a the winds are returning. Just my bloody luck!

I was thinking about getting a seat harness but then thought the straps are likely going to put more pressure on the groin area rather than the lower back.

Want to get back on the water as soon as possible but don't want to risk any damage to my groin/guts by going back any earlier. If any kiters out there have been through this and could offer and advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Have been through this twice before.
First time took ages to heal as it was done prior to key holes surgery.
Second time was a much easier, ( key hole surgery) just a day procedure and home that arvo with my better half looking after me.
I am self employed and followed the Specialists advice to the letter.
Have not had a bit of trouble since.
Don't rush it, that old saying 'A stitch in time'
You will be back on the water before you know it

yeh don't rush that one, easy to tear again. Even when you do go out, mow the lawn for a while.

Winds don't really start until mid November in perth anyway.... you got time.

My surgeon told me 6 weeks I had a hernia in my belly button thou.
Ask your surgeon take his advice better than having to get it done again

Mesh repairs are great, had my first repair without it, tore again. Last two have been key hole with mesh, no probs at all. Went back to the surgeon for the follow up after the last one a week after, tentively got on the bed, he said don't worry, you won't tear it.
One suggestion, keep moving, don't sit around taking it easy, everything stiffens up.

I took a year off work after my op.
Kiting would have been out but I hadn't started kiting back then so it wasn't an issue. Still have to be a little bit careful about it. Sometimes the mesh pulls a little if I'm straining.

I know of two people who went here and are fully recovered and strong in the area of the hernia.They both had mesh fail previously.

Thanks for the replies guys. Im booked in here in Perth in a private hospital to get it done in the morning. You would have to assume the safety and quality of the work is world class here....I really do hope I don't have to travel to India to get it repaired. What a nightmare for your friends!

My job is office based (probably main reason why i got the hernias in the first place). So I shouldn't need to take too much time off work. I have allowed 10 days, hopefully that is enough and I am thinking of allowing 2 months before going kiting again.

psychojoe - What is it you do for a job? Heavy lifting involved? a year off ! ? Got me worried here mate!

I think you may have just helped kick the Perth season off early.

Had the same thing done just 6 weeks ago! Laid around and took it easy for 2 weeks, milked it really.. I feel fine now!.. back in the gym, not going heavy on the weights, good excuse not too do deadlifts and squats anyway! I've kited twice in the last week!, 12m sessions.. just didn't jump too much. No problems at all. I own and operate a twin power scraper for a living, and was back in the cab 12 days after the surgery. Laparoscopic keyhole.. double inguinal. Just enjoy the painkillers and parking up for a bit! I finally watched every episode of Vikings! Can't feel the gauze area at all? The actual incision scars were a bit tender and that was it?... you'll be fine mate! If you haven't had a hernia you mustn't be going hard enough they say!

Probably don't worry too much. I do paving ,which caused the hernia . I was considering a career change because I didn't want another hernia but when the money ran out I went back to what I know. I just can't go as hard anymore. Have to be careful about lifting stretching and twisting.

I had the same surgery with mesh (2.5 years ago) and was back on the water after just 2 weeks. I am sure it is different for everyone though, depending on how bad the hernia was in the first place. I think we all know our own bodies best and will know when the time is right. Just go easy.

Mate I feel for ya. I had a groin injury that kept me essentially off the water from December 23rd 2016 to the winter of 2017, then ankle and knee surgery this year.

So yeh just to be on the water is a gift for me now. Just riding simply and enjoying it.

This too shall pass.
