Hi all,

I am a newby to kite surfing but have spent some time on a trainer kite and feel the best way is to just get on with it. As a result I want to purchase some gear to get started.

I was hoping that you all might be able to advise on what might be a good set up.

I am 104kg, 6ft 4 tall, and live in Perth WA where it gets pretty windy most of the time during the summer.

What kite size should I get?
With kite surfers rapidly evloving is there a minimum cut off date for kites that are forgiving for beginners?
Wat are the different kite designs and which one would suit beginners like myself
Are there any reccommended instructors in the perth area?
Does anyone have a set up in perth area that they might want to sell.?

Cheers in advance for any help.

hey mate, i am almost exactly the same as you weight and height wise, i ride a 10m and 14m switchblade idsx by cabrinha, its the 2010 gear which should be on the market very soon. Awesome kites and very beginner friendly. Def go speak to katie at choice though, she is a champ. Good luck mate, welcome to the greatest sport in the world :)

1) get your lessons with an instructor.
2) come here and read the forum for kite reviews.
3) check the second hand market and prices.
4) talk to your instructor and ask his opinion and the forum members about the 2nd hand kite you have in mind.

Note 1: try to buy a 2nd hand 2009 kite instead of new as you will bit the cr@p out of your first kite.
Note 2: ask everyone before you buy anything.
