Hi!

Just looking for opinions on which is the better board for light wind.

2009 Cabrinha Plasma 146
2011 Naish Haze XL 144

I can get either board new for the same price.

I have just returned from Mui Ne Vietnam, and spent most of the trip on a 146 Plasma in 15-20 Knots, near enough to flat water, and really enjoyed just cruising around on the 'door'. But would the Naish, being a younger design by 2 years, be any better?
I normally ride my Underground Styx 138, but being on the heavier side (90kg) im looking for something to cruise around on when its not really blowing.

Any pointers would be appreciated as im not going to get a chance to test out the Naish.

Cheers
Will

Has anyone had any experience, or have an opinion on either of these boards?

The 2009 plasma was pretty flat and square which is good for absolute bottom end but if you're riding in chop, can be a bit more technical to stop the tips catching/ throwing spray. No idea about the Haze though sorry.

Where will you be riding? That affects your criteria a fair bit. What's your biggest kite? If you just want to cruise then a big twintip is fine. If you want to boost or do powered tricks then going for a bigger kite may serve you better.

At 90kg the 138 styx is a decent sized board and will have enough area to work with big kites.

Thanks heaps.

Im just looking to cruise, using a 12m Switchblade as my biggest kite, while waiting for heavier wind.

All my AUS kiting so far has been in Port Philip Bay. I'll keep renting gear overseas.

If anyone has used a Naish Haze XL, let me know what you thought.

Had a Haze 135 x 44.5 XL great board ,quick to get on the plane and cut through chop nice, was fairly flat in the mid section and turns up nice at the ends so was good in the surf and chop turned up tips allowed the board to lift over the whitewash with ease, used it as my lightwinder, the bigger version is fairly similar build wise from what i've seen but never rode it,have ridden a few cab boards not the plasma though,if its real flat it might not go as well in the chop/surf as the haze???????

Cruising on the bay with a 12m switchy I'd suggest a large freeride board rather than a dedicated lightwind twintip. Even in lighter wind the bay can be sloppy and if 12m is your biggest kite then you won't get much extra benefit from the flatness and squareness of light wind boards.

So a large underground flx, cab prodigy, nobile 555 etc would be well worth a look. These will handle the chop a bit better while still getting going earlier than your styx.
