Hi guys,

The quick release function on the last few safety leashes that I have had have sometimes accidentally activated after a stack. Thankfully those times I was hooked in so no issue. I'm not sure if other people have the same problem, or I have just been unlucky with my past leashes, but I am assuming that this is not just a problem specific to my leashes (otherwise the answer to my problem is to buy a new leash).

To avoid the risk of losing my kite into a crowd of people when unhooking and my leash accidentally detatching I was thinking of also attaching a second leash as a backup. I ride suicides on an IDS system (please dont use this post as an excuse to bag cabs). Can anyone see a problem with using two leashes? I realise that there will now be another quick release I will need to worry about if everything goes pear shaped, but I think its better than a rogue kite sent out accidentally.

Cheers
Steve

How about just one leash with a less 'twitchy' safety device?
One of my old Airush leashes had a safety which used Velcro for the release. Not as easy or as quick to release as a Cab leash, but the chance of an ‘accidental ejection’ is virtually nil.

I have had the same problem with 09 cab switchy. I was doing some big jumps recently and through lack of technique I was landing on my back. This set the quick release off.

i run one of the ss handle pass setups and it has no qr on the leash its on the spreader bar, its been very reliable so far, i have been using it for almost 12 months. only improvement ss should make is include a spreader bar pad with the kit.

apart from that i have a flexi foil leash from a hadlow pro kite which would be the best leash with qr that i have ever seen.

i used to have this problem alot but since starting to use a mystic HP leash (the one with the red loopy thing with velcro) it hasnt happened since. as for the actual bungee i have changed around a slingshot release and gotten rid of the in -line safety. i am yet to accidentally release using it like this.

Yeah the elastic on the Cab QR leash must stretch - I used to have one on the back of my harness, and anytime I stacked back first into the water it would release. Got rid of cab kite and leash - no more problems. F one bandit has velcro on QR and it has never come undone. You could fix the Cab one by replacing elsastic or maybe mount leash on spreader bar (less likely to get dragged open with water pressure)

Last years velcro release works a treat but the new ones release accidentally like all the others

Thanks guys. I will try shortening the leash, if that doesn't work, I'll try and get my hands on a flexifoil leash. If that fails, I'll go buy a metre of chain from Bunnings and clip in for better or worse.

cheers

The new slingshot leash with the push away safety works really well too.

The old one was crap.
