Looked at all sorts of videos and tips - tried all season last year and can't figure out how to jump/boost. Landing is the main issue - yes, I know, bring the kite forward and dive before you land. Easier said than done in my case.

Frustrated trying to 'get it' last year - time to try something different, some instructions.

Any recommendations for Perth WA? Kite at Pengos (shaulwater). Ideally someone that charges reasonable rate

kiting just over 2 years, have own equipment of course, can stay upwind, carving turn and toeside goofy more less dialed, but would love to learn boosting high and landing soft...

Have few kites and boards - know that some are not so good for floaty jumps:

blade trigger 7
Wainman Smoke 9
cabrinha SB 12
Zephyr 17

Favourite board Shinn Dundee 135
also have airush switch 142

can go up 3-4m but end up timid and put off by crash landings. Land one out of 20 but ca't quite understand what I did different that I landed

watched all sort of tutorials to no avail, including the ones mentioned already. Must have some mental block that someone has to diagnose

LOL. Simply put, don't be a pussy.

You won't hurt yourself at 3-4m. Let the kite do the work for you. Hold your edge and send your kite back overhead. The faster you send and the faster you travel across the water the higher you go. Don't pop, don't release your edge, just let the kite do all the work, it will pull you off the water. You will get a much better feeling of the timing this way. Once in the air, at the peak of the jump, pull gentle on your front hand and spot your landing. Work on sending it faster, holding a harder edge, riding into the jump faster. You will beat Nick Jacobsons shonky record in no time.

Oh and if you pull the bar in you will go higher, just don't let it out on the way back down or it will drop you.

Try going really small, like 0.5m and just work on that landing technique a hundred times before you start going bigger.
No point working on height if you can't land.

I am able to go higher but figured that need to learn landing small jumps before I aim at higher jumps… Is this the wrong logic?

Going small to master those points outlined by DM is a great start

The zephyr and switcg blade are known jumping kites so there is no excuse there. . . If anything the dundee might be a bit small and underpowered matched to the zephyr. . . . I will have to lend u my x caliber 141 x 43 and u will notice the speed, pop and jump ability of that board with both kites mentioned. . . .

Commitment . . . . If things go wrong it will just finish in a splash. . . . . . I'm no expert but practice and power controlled will win out

your obviously keen.. if no one helps you out - ill be back in Perth in 2 weeks. I'll show you how to land butter soft..

Your boards ok anything will jump - smaller kites are crap for learning this technique..

Think about cleaning up your quiver to have more of the same kites. Each type and brand of kite needs a slight adjustment of timing. If your switching between them a lot you may never get the kites dialed in.

Next. Guaranteed you are not sending it early enough or hard enough. Crank it down in front of you sooner than you have been.

Another tip. Let the bar out on the way down. Pull it in hard just before landing when you are redirecting hard.

No it's correct. Landing is everything. Remember to pull on your front hand a bit on the way down.

the whole approach to landing changes once you realise you should always land with the board going down wind (and keep the bar sheeted in!!)

So many people just cant work out the landing because they try to keep the board heading in the same direction it was travelling just before leaving the water - sorry I don't know an instructor in your area but and good instructor should be good enough to get you boosting to the moon and back smoothly !!

Where you kite? Plenty of local crew to help you out.

I like all my kites other than Pivot that I am trying to sell. They all have their strong points - it does not bother me that they each feel a bit different.

Find a teacher with radio helmets. I have taught jumping and this us the best way.

The guy who does the 'learning to fly' video (advakite site) does remote coaching. I think he posts on here occasionally but I can't remember his username. If you can't find something locally you could try remote coaching?

His videos seem pretty well made so its possibly worth a go.

Mate if I am not mistaken I sold you my (blue) Zephyr at a good price perhaps 1.5 or 2 years ago. You kite at Pengos, lately more at the blue toilets. Some of the folks kiting at Pengos consider you being a bit of a grumpy misfit at times

Happy to pay attention and give you a few pointers next time I see you. Don't waste your money, it will be a free advise. Done it heaps, happy to help. Pretty sure I will be able to advise what is wrong with your landing technique.

Last time I saw you you tried to practise your low end on a sb. Seen you in lower winds on larger kites most of the time. A higher wind / smaller kite day may be better for proper vertical jumps. Better for actually going fast, moving the kite quickly hence reaching good heights, giving you enough time to prepare for a good landing (I agree with Lambie a lot of kiters I see just don't land facing downwind and hence crash or come to a stop), and kite will be fast enough to be redirected quickly when you need it.

Does not work for me - I put some comments on it in the past and got blasted by lovers of Pivot

Mostly, it was meant to replace my 12m Switchblade but it is much more powerful kite. I can't hold it much past 20 kn and my Switchblade is fine up to 24-25 kn. Bar pressure is high compared to my other kites, but then again, the Pivot community blasted me for saying so

One theory is that maybe it is so for me because I don't use the original bar with it. Can't see how it makes a difference - used Ozone bar, low Vee, four equal lines, why would it be any different than the original bar?

yeah but it is fun, I just focused on the jump and considered my self lucky, when I copped it to much from the boys for not landing I searched what defines a land so this educated me a lil and I eventually learnt how to land . these days I land 2/3rds of my jumps which can get up to 40foot. I have been kiting since feb 2015
