Trying to get some info on what gear to take to Geraldton at this time of year as I do multiple sports. I'm there for a month with work.

kitesurfing - 7m/10m/13m ? Surfboard and twintip?
foiling - can you prone in Geraldton ??
Traditional surfing - worth taking a board ?

have to be a little selective with baggage allowances, won't take wingboard for this reason
appreciate any advice
cheers, james

Havnt kited central WA much but Im thinking its getting pretty late in the summer season for kiting and too early for the winter fronts. Foiling maybe as I reckon the wind will be pretty light. Def pack a surfboard though. Plenty of waves nearby and april onwards you will start getting pulses of swell.

I agree with Humdinger. It's too late in the season. You'd be very lucky to have a handful of sea breezes there during that month. Not worth bringing kite gear IMO.

No boat. For surfing the offshore reefs I'd assume?

April/May is generally the LEAST windy time of year here. Wind season is realistically from Early October until about mid to end of March. When it does get windy in the cooler months, it tends to be offshore (easterlies), so too risky to go out. As bjw says, you can kite at the Abrolhos because you can kite in places where it's not offshore, but you need to go out there with someone who has a big boat and who knows the area, and can look after you. It's 100km offshore from Geraldton, so it's not a place to be taken lightly, and it's regulated where you're permitted to go. Unless you have an unlimited budget, my advice would be to look for something else to do. There is surf, (e.g., Flat Rocks, down toward Dongara, or Bowes River up toward Horrocks). The rest of the breaks around town I can't be bothered with. Lots of Stand Up paddle boarding around town though, if you're into that sort of thing. Yes, you can prone foil. Ben Marden is the local prone foiling master, if you can track him down.

There are places to kite in a SE wind in Gero. I would bring a board to surf with and the 10m kite. Just in case.
