Did any one used the Garmin Fenix watch while kitesurfing? Would the water resistance performance be all right? the few metres submersion would be inevitable and Im guessing not a problem but I'm worrying about the crushes resulting with the watch being exposed to higher pressure blasts.

Cheers

I've been using Garmin Forerunner 10 to try and measure height of jumps but don't seem to get a reading.

I checked out the Fenix. It is water resistant, not waterproof or swim rated. I wouldn't use it for kitesurfing.

I opted for a 310XT which is very waterproof and swim rated. There is no gasket seal for the charger, just two pins. The 910XT is similar but more expensive and doesn't offer any significantly better features in my opinion.

Cheers ! !

I reckon the Ambit would be the way to go but that GPS module sticking out on the side is putting me of buying one. . Suppose I can wait another year for further improvements . . been waiting few already :)

Try this.. I've been using it lately and am still on experimenting stage - so far I like it.

Awesome tool for downwinders

http://www.nikestore.com.au/nike-sportwatch-gps-powered-by-tomtom_1001930/ you can get it on ebay slightly cheaper..

I combine it with the Heartrate monitor strap from Tomtom as it adds data to your 'workout'.. Next I want to try the shoepod inside my wetsuit leg want to see if it records the bumps in the chop as steps..

Please. Stay away from the nike watch. Got it for christmas. It only go's to 36km per hour max. So training for racing was out of the question. Then crashed hard, filled full of water and never worked again.

Suunto ambit is great, you can change the display, feedback and online reporting / stats is amazing. Better mapps and display than the nike.

Would hold off buying any gps watch until the new garmin comes out. Has count down timer for racing. Gps. Man over board you name it.

Find the price from highly tuned athletes then take it to rebel sport and they beat it by 10%

Spend the money get the heart rate strap and use it running, gym etc too

Yu talking abou the Garmin Quatix? I've read somewhere that it'll have on WR of 50m, same as the fenix which would be a poor effort for a "Water" oriented watch I reckon

Hey mate, you made me think about the watch so I went looking for reviews.. see below. Should you return the watch because it allowed water in?
About the speed, I agree - it is designed for running so it's not going to like you running at more than 36kms /hr eheheh

Swimming/Waterproofing:

While the Nike+ Sportwatch wasn?t designed with swimming in mind, it has no issues playing around in the water. The unit itself is fully waterproofed to 5 ATM?s. Wait, you don?t know what ATM?s are? No worries, neither does the rest of the world.

ATM?s are simply Atmospheres, and it?s one method of stating a specific waterproofing level. Typically speaking 5ATM?s is equivalent to about 50 meters, or about 165 feet (though I?ve found slightly varying calculations ? but this puts it in the general ballpark). Of course, they could have just simply stated that depth in feet or meters on the back of the unit, instead of stating ?5 ATM?s?. No worries though, it just means its simply well waterproofed (and better than the IPX7 level typical of most Garmin units).

I?ve taken it swimming a few times doing a few thousands yards of laps each time without any issues at all in the waterproofing department.

The only challenge to using it while swimming is that you can?t engage any simple timer mode ? like a normal stopwatch. So you?d have to get it started in either GPS, Footpod or Heart Rate mode (with those accessories) before you used it as a standard stopwatch.
