Snapped a front line today on my 2012 north Trust bar. Should I replace all the lines? Can i replace the lines with a different brand? Ozone lines look like they are good quality, would they work with a north bar/kite (2012 Fuse/Evo)

Yes you should replace all lines unless you have a reason to think it was damaged prior.

Ozone lines are good and last, but will need some stitching by a sail maker as they are different lengths.

Usually if you snap a line it's likely others would as well but it's hard to tell without being able to see your bar/lines. You also have to check your depower rope and safety line as they might need to be changed if frayed. I snapped the depower rope and fifth line at the same time on a 2012 5-line North bar some time ago.

If you want to only change that one broken line you're going to have trouble finding the right length as your lines lengths will have changed over time...so it's very unlikely you will find the exact length without having to have the line cut.

You could change lines with many other brands, although some line sets may have different lengths between the front lines and back lines so you have to make sure you measure the length of your front lines vs back lines once you take them off.

You also have to make sure you can arrange the same pig tail/larks head configuration to match the connections at your kite.

You may want to look into Q-Power line and make a set of lines by yourself. No sleeving required at all. Much stronger and cheaper than lines on most major brands bars; will keep like new for years and years. There are a few tricks on how to get the lines all same length - google it. And make sure to use only figure-of-eight knots. Then you are all set.

I find it shocking kite lines would snap in this day and age. Kite lines are super strong and can withstand stretching and weights nearly over 300 pounds! Most likely your lines were predamaged somehow before hand by something sharp like a rock or accidental misuse?

Just replace the front lines. It costs a fortune (at least double for North lines) to replace the lot. The front lines pretty much take the most of the load so they're the ones that normally go. I did have all four lines + safety go simultaneously on a 2012 North Bar. Because the front and rear lines are different lengths I couldn't use a generic replacement set - North replacement sets of lines are stupid expensive. Ultimately I bought Q-Power line and made my own lines - I just doubled the lines where I wanted to tie the knots at the end. They've lasted 2 seasons now. On the downside, they're noisy (they whistle) and they're really stiff so if you loop alot in one direction you'll spend a while untangling your lines before each session. Otherwise they seem bulletproof.

How did you determine the correct /original length of the North lines, especially the different length front lines. Copying the old lines would build in any stretching the old lines have. I've tried to find out the North front line lengths but can't find anything

There is only need to replace the pair of front lines. No need to replace the rears unless they suffered additional damage. I personally wouldn't replace them with anything other than North lines. They aren't that expensive. Drop into your local North dealer and ask for the front line replacement set. Pretty sure it includes the 5th line as well this year.

Don't use other company lines on your North bar, stretch rates will be different.

So as ActionSportsWA and I said, just replace the front lines with North Lines - they're not that expensive. If you have to replace all four lines, either buy a replacement bar on clearance or do it yourself - the North full replacement sets are a rip-off and I don't want to encourage them (I was replacing the lines for a 4-line trust bar). I bought a spool of this: www.kite-line.com/kiteboarding-gear/accessories/kite-lines/q-power-600lb-500ft-spool . It was half the price of a 4-line replacement set and I had plenty left over. To tune them, just get one of the lines to the length you want then make the others roughly the same length but don't tie the knots in the end tight. Remember, you just want all four lines the same length by the time they get to the kite, so put an octopus strap through them once they are attached at the bar end and slip the knot until they are the same length then tighten - just double the line over at the end and tie off the doubled section with a single knot. It only took me about 10 minutes to get it right.

hey shane, ive just gone through same thing with ozone lines

depending on where the snap in the line is you have some options. If its up near the line loop that attach to the bridle you may be able to cut all the lines shorter and then resleve and loop

if its lower down you will need to replace the whole lines (both inside lines). unfortunately for me the new lines only came in a set and were $250 which i thought was a lot so i found a sail maker who did the repair just replaced the two inside lines, cut to size and resleeved and looped. there was a few little mods on it to make it work but hell of a lot cheaper than new oem lines.. ive been out about quite a bit and havnt noticed any streching or anything so may be an option for you..if the person is experienced he should be able to get lines the same length etc..
