It seems that each of the board companies has a board that is clearly positioned as their "freestyle pro/competition twin tip" which is generally a flatter light carbon board that is designed for pop and speed (Team, MoneyShot, XCaliber etc).

However with the trend towards wakestyle riding and boots, each of the companies now has a wakestyle board which is completely different - rockered, stiff, heavier, good for boots and pop differently, and are for low kite powered tricks and rails (Gambler, Arkade, Custom etc).

I know the differences in these boards so please dont go there but my question is if freestyle competition is very powered wakestyle now why are the freestyle boards positioned as the competition boards? What are the PKRA guys riding if they are on boots - is it the wakestyle variants or the "competition" boards?

Depends who it is... But most people are still riding the flater "freestyle" boards because the competitions are usually in sh!ty wind and thus is hard to pop with more rocker. These boards ride like sh!t compared to their more rockered conterparts, but for a competition rider it is sometimes a nessisity. Some guys are riding with a bit more rocker than production and if they are it's usually with a custom board with production graphics.

I don't have to compete, so I ride what is comfortable and fun for me and my knees. I have rocker.

Does that mean you still drag out the old catapult 142 with the 3 stage rocker?

LOL I still have one of the 142 wake stars in yellow and ride it regularly. I can hold my ground Just don't ask me to go upwind.

Amazing how things change. I remember when a few of us were riding LF trips and other wakeboards everyone thought they were rubbish cause they didn't have a flat rocker line and what do you need those channels for? Not enough flex blah blah blah. I suppose some got caught up in the " kite mafia"hype be gees it took a while for them to come round.
