Hi guys from "Down Under"......

I am a 41yrs old German. About 5 yrs ago I came to Indonesia and fell in love with the country and and the Javanese people and last no least with my lovely wife. We are now a family with 3 boys an run a little business at the beautiful Karimunjawa Island.

I am now at a point where I am pretty comfortable with my 3m trainer kite (HQ Rush pro). The next step would be to see an instructor. Now, the next school for me is located in Bali. I am sure some of you guys have been to Sanur, right? Unfortunately, for several reasons, I will not make it there for quiet some time, even it is not that far from where I live.

On the other side I am in the lucky situation to live in an unexplored amazing (and probably good for kiteboarding) destination in Indonesia.

My experience atm. Good practice in flying a 3m trainer (3 liner, on land only) and understanding the wind window and some theoretical basics, but just from reading here and there and watching movies on yt. So far, NO! water dragging, launching/ landing, water start, self rescue,...In fact I have never even blown up my LEI's and my board has not touched water...

I do have my OWN equipment here (148x40 board, harness, 12m LEI, 9m LEI, 8m Foil, 3m Trainer etc.) and even wanted to "teach it myself". Some smarter guys convinced me that I need an instructor. Thanks god! So here we go...

Here is the deal:

I will offer a free stay in our No.1 rated Hotel for 7 days. That includes 2 persons. So bring along your wife, girlfriend or friend. Bring your grandmother if you like . You will get a nice Bungalow and a breakfast for two is already included.


In return you get me ride upwind. Easy like that

What you need to do?
Send me a pm (or better email) and convince me that you are the right person to get me onboard. For myself safety is very important. I need someone with enough experience. You should have already successfully teached people and if you are a certified instructor, even better. But that is not "a must" for me...

I would say, I am a fast 40+ learner (hopefully), positive thinker and really the type of guy that gets along with everbody.and it is not a "job" I am asking you to do. In fact, it would be much better if you would be a person having fun in bringing people closer to the sport, have some wanderlust and being exited to explore an untouched location.

Therefore, It'll be good to bring your own gear as well, since you will also have plenty of free time to kite board yourself and/or discover the island. Maybe a bigger kite would make sense. A guest of mine, a dutch sailor rated the wind here on a stronger day last July, about 5-6 bft. Another guest, experienced kitesurfer and about my size said a 9m or 12m would be perfect, while sitting with me on an island watching the empty sea and having the wind blown through our hairs, last September...Still, sometimes reading on the forums it gives me a feeling that a 15m- 18m Leightwind Kite may find most use in the conditions here. I am 85kg btw.

About the spot:
Karimun Jawa is an archipelago with 27 islands. It is a Marine National Park with 110,000 ha and it is also called the "Underwater Garden of the Java Sea".

Each year around May, the South Eastern trade winds reach Indonesia. This marks the end of the raining season and the start of the dry season. The Indonesian here call this simply the "angin timur" (the east wind).

Have a look and/ or search "Karimunjawa Island" or "Pulau Karimunjawa". The point here is really that the location is 90 km north east of mainland (Jepara in Central Java). So the trade winds hit us full time. Check here:

(..wind are low atm, I know. But believe me, that will change. On Windfinder/com we are usually in the green area when the east winds are here, and that'll be 12-20 kts.)

In short, we are talking about a flat water paradise (NO! waves or breaks) with beautiful white beaches and turquoise water and above all has steady winds of 10-20+ knots from May until October.

Once more, steady winds! Believe me it was blowing last season every single day, same direction, always a bit stronger towards the evening. But maybe "El Nino" did his part, as well...

Even the wind would be low, here you can find some of the most beautiful corals on this planet. At least that what I heard from guests that have seen corals all over the world.

Karimunjawa is easily accessed. Once in Kuta/ Bali, I would probably move on to SEMARANG. I have good experience with AIR ASIA and kite gear... ( I would help to organize an airport pickup in SEMARANG that brings you to JEPARA)....and than take a boat to the Karimunjawa Island (again I will help you to organize boat tickets). All not very expensive. Once in Karimunjawa I will await you at the harbor and bring you to our place.

If you have been to Indonesia you know that travel and living can be rather cheap compared to other places. Especially if you speak the language and understand how things work here.

But I was actually was NOT planning to cover any travel needs, but I am open to discuss that. This is not really about money here. But I understand it is an important factor. My priority is that YOU have a great time here (same with all our guests...). ,

Free accommodation, free kiting, just teach me in between having some fun. Come and have a holiday for free! That is my offer...

Hopefully some of you will be interested in my offer. It took me quiet a while to convince my wife from it. :argue: Anyway, pls understand that I have to choose one of you at the end, if there will be more to apply on this offer.

So don' t be disappointed if it is not you. I even had a guy the other day who said I not want to be your instructor but I love your place and want to come around and try that spot. I am super cool with that! Even you visit Karimunjawa and stay in another place - give me a shout ! Maybe I will also do another "7 days for free - advanced instructor" in late September this year. Lets see..

Final decision "of the lucky one" will be made at 31st January 2016, if possible.

also whats a weeks accomodation worth after cost getting theyre food etc etc etc because a course anywhere in worlds ruffly $500 i didnt think a week in indo cost 500 for accomodation

Great Post! Great location you have and sounds like an attractive deal for a good and competent Instructor.

I personally may be interested in the deal but at this stage I have other plans for that time of year at the moment. If my situation changes then I will be in touch.

Please do not pay attention to these two knuckle heads advice as above, as it's their way I'm sure, of trying to be funny asses and it is severely bad advice for anyone contemplating getting into Kiteboarding. Sure there are many persons that have self taught themselves or by a mate but most of those could all tell you of a horror storey or two where things definitely or could have got out of hand for them from their lack of knowledge

Nothing substitutes for proper, competent and good instruction for this sport unless your a total numbskull. To attempt Kiteboarding without good guidance and particularly in a location that good hospital facilities are not available would be even a sillier consideration. I suggest to hold fast to your resolve of attracting a good Kite Instructor as you planned to assist you before challenging setting up and even practicing with anything other than a trainer kite.

In the mean time welcome to our wonderful world of such an exhilarating sport!

he wants $500 worth of instruction for $100...... i stand by my advice for him to slowly teach himself.
or come up with the cash.
its simply not a feasible offer for a professional instructor.

@saferider, you really don't need anyone to teach you a thing.

You have a trainer kite and already know the wind-window right?
You have a DVD player and seen some videos? The Progression Beginner series? If not, I highly recommend it.

Just go out with a friend and take every step, every moment, with caution and patience.

You will figure it out by yourself.

Just make sure you have friend(s) near by in case things go wrong and need to catch the kite if you let it go, etc. And to help you launch as well. Don't use self-launching aids or techniques yet.

I know beginners should/must get professional lessons, and I am not saying there is no merit in that.
But in some cases, like yours it seems, that is not really an option.

So what does a kid do when he wants to ride a bicycle and no one can teach him? Try, fall and try again!

You will fall, but then again if you take it easy, don't go out in strong winds over 15knots (even gusts), then I don't see you will have an issue.

Practice gently the wind window with a real kite.

Learn the safety and actually use it! See how a kite flies when it collapses and how to retrieve it.

Do a self-rescue in shallow water first and later get a friend in a boat to watch you do it in deeper water.

Make sure you have the right equipment though.

Many pros have taught themselves, some of which I know personally back in Melbourne. It's not rocket science.

Besides, a lot of trainers teach up to a point and sometimes say - it's all practice now. Yeah they do. And guess up to what they teach? Self rescue and water starts. That's about it.

They stand their watching you, and some tell you what you're doing wrong, others don't say a word.

Why invite the risk of an ego maniac that in the end says... well that's about it... good luck!?

@loftywinds. There is many things I reached myself. Everyone did, right. Now here were I live 10yrs old even teach themselves how to ride a motorbike. Once I got the idea that want to learn kb, I just had a quick read of what beginners gear, how much the costs etc. I was really close to buy a 12m LEi and a wide board on get it on myself. I am sure you see the same type beginners from time to time on your spots, and see **** happen. I was also not even aware there exist trainer kites, but mostly I was not aware about the power of wind & kite. Now for the trainer, everything below 3m is useless in my opinion. I have 1.8, 2.0 foils. You learn the steering, but not much about the power. The HQ Rush pro 3m we have is pretty nice and we have a lot of fun with that thing.

But I get your point about certain people not need a lesson. But it takes more than watching the progression videos, in my opinion.

In some other forum members scared me off to teach it myself. And I believe that was a very good thing and saved myself from some painful experiences. At least, so far.

And we will have guest anyway who are kiteboarder and I am sure the one or the other give me a lesson and I give something in return...

Exactly what I am looking for. So not much of a (financial) risk. Once in Bali your are here in no time...On thing I did not mention. I worked as prof. photographer for the board industry for about ten years. Therefore, one day I am happy to make a (action) photoshoot with the one(s) coming around...Now search and have a look how much it will be to hire a prof photographer for day, if the financial return is important for you !

Once more, for me this is not about money. It is about fun !
