This is only relevant to anyone who has a blue-orange-yellow coloured 2016 Cabrinha FX. If you have, have the colours, and in particular the yellow, faded radically compared to other kites of the same colour combo and age you have seen? I got mine secondhand last month, and only yesterday compared it to one of the same age on the beach. They looked like two different kites. It could be just a batch of lighter-dyed material, or not ....

I'd asked the question about fading, and to kiters on a specialist website about kiting, no less, because the fading was enough to potentially indicate the kite was older than claimed, or that there could be a quality control issue at Carbrinha.

We spend so much on our sport we have a right to question the products we buy, and ask other kiters, with respect, for their information.

Scientific experiment:

1. Wait until everyone has forgotten about this (should not be too long)
2. Create a new username
3. Re-post, changing the brand to one of ozone, north or any other (maybe not switch)
4. See if response changes, if not then
5. Repeat all steps with new username in step 2 and different brand in step 3

Or grow a skin

Different coloured cloth will fade at different rates due to the different chemical structure of the pigments. It can also change the effective life span of the cloth.

Personally if I was buying a kite I wanted to own for more than 2 seasons I would only ever buy a kite with cloth made by these guys -www.teijin.com/products/advanced-fibers/

Faded jeans are quite hipster

i noticed the other day kids basketball hoop net is made from the same string/nylon/whatever died blue, white and red. The white centre became so brittle the bottom of the net fell off. I pulled all the netting the white disintegrates and falls apart but the blue and red are still strong and wont pull apart. I wonder if white/yellow/lighter colouse absorbs more uv and wears quicker and if this goes for kites?

Maybe a dark canopy would be the longest lasting

I acid wash my Qites and put intentional rips in them for extra sun tanning. It's so 2018.

It may have seen more sun more than the other kites.
Could very well have been left sitting setup in the sun on the beach all day.

Mate, you could have sold yours as a special limited edition, for big bucks....pity everyone now knows it's just an old faded, farked kite.

Fading differences are nothing new. My then new 2009 Switchblade (orange) faded twice as fast as another mates even though we were both using them about the same amount. Didn't seem to hurt it and only just replaced it with a new blue/yellow 2017 one in November so will be interesting to see if that fades more.

A plastics expert I once knew made the comment that the darker the plastic colour the move UV stabilisation they could get into the item - maybe this applies to fabric colours as well. This sounds counterintuitave but apparently black is the MOST uv resistant colour ?? go figure and of course that then means white is the least and may account for the basket ball net experience shared above. Of course if no UV stabilising stuff (technical hey)is included with the pigments then it wont resist UV very well at all ;-(
Maybe the yellow fabric of the cabrinha kite that is fading badly was made on a Monday morning/ Friday arvo ?? If its faded that fast Id say its a ticking time bomb

fabric colours? plastic colours? kites are made from polyester. so both?

but colour of your polyester has not mattered as far as longevity for decades now.

the armys still not making black parachutes but they have no reason not to now.

In printing red based colours generally fade the quickest - so a red/orange kite is going to look faded/older quicker than say a blue one :)

So if you plan on leaving your kite sitting in the sun red isn't the kite colour for you.

No it's a (W)hinging (A)lways kite, so it could have seen a lot of sun compared to those ungrateful GST-stealing communists, with their new-fangled ideas, like shoes, east of Ceduna .

But I think it's just quality control at the fabric maker, as other kites the same age on the beach that dayget used just as much, and still had bright yellows.

I think a letter to Cabrinha is on the cards, as a polite suggestion from a long-time customer.
