I see on the new Dynabar V7 you can use either of the two offered metal bars or a dyneema slider setup.

Even though they have a wave model the videos on their site show the wave sessions using the dyneema slider.

Has anyone had any experience in the surf with this setup?

I reckon for hooked riding they must make a good difference. All the riders that stay hooked seem to be using them, i.e. Ian Alldrege, and he looks super slick hooked in.

I've noticed in pics that Ian alldredge uses a dynema slider.

I have the free ride V7. its a little clunky when it changes position but really good to use for body position. Dynema would be a good option.

I fixed this problem by using the largest diameter bungy cord from marine supplies and at full extension of hook the cord is at full stretch. I attached it with galvo tie wire at ends and in the centre, works a treat. I also fixed the problem of the centre roller jamming and wearing out continuely by replaing it with a small plastic roller from a sailing pulley that has a stainless bush, I replace the roller at the end of each season cost $10.00, Had no trouble with mine for over 2 years, makes huge difference to toeside tricks when your back is crook. Remove the pad and take it down to your local engineering shop. He would be stoked to do it for a couple of beers.

That can happen to any bar, my dakine hook snapped on one side.

I made a similar one to what Andrash made, but tensioned the dyneema a bit too tight which I hear makes it a bit more ON/Off on the sliding, it is better to have a bit of triangle thing happening with the dyneema.

I have never really given them much thought because I find I can wear my harness loose enough that I can move it around quite easy without it riding up and I didn't like the idea of a clunky metal on metal setup but the dyneema sounds interesting.

As far as snapping hooks goes on my first decent fly of my then brand new (several years ago now) 7.5mtr Bandit in very strong wind, I went to do a big jump transition and to my surprise at the top of the jump I redirected the kite and the hook snapped clean off my harness.
I was left dangling in the air looking at my hook swinging on my CL.
I crashed the kite and of course I was a long way out, went to self rescue and the sharp bit that was left on my harness where it had snapped punctured the leading edge......

I wear my waist harness so it can rotate left and right but suffer from the bottom edge wearing a hole in my hip. Originally I used a tri-suit under my boardies and a rashy on top to aid in slippage but felt the tri-suit was a bit of a mission and it felt a "queer", now I use a spring suit and a rashy but find it a bit too warm.

I must revisit my sliding hook but what do you guys do to prevent your harness chaffing especially the guys that surf kitesurf?

I use a Flying Objects Felix Pro (previously used F O Flight Control) and have never had a problem with chaffing.
I do sometimes wear two rashies as I reckon this helps the harness to slide from side to side but have often had no rashie, I always switch and very rarely ride toeside.

I just bought a new harness to fix the chaffing issues I was having with my FO Flight Control harness. I usually only kite in a t-shirt though.

Please contact the dealer you purchased this bar from, it will be replaced.
There was a faulty batch that got sent out last season, we had no way to track which ones were faulty, bugga!
The design has been completely changed now to avoid this issue ever happening again - The slider bar is now bolted to the spreader with stainless Nyloc nuts.

I often will put a piece of ankle strapping tape onto my lower waist to prevent this and it seems to do the job good.

I use the V6, with a seat harness. Brilliant. However the bungy wears really quick. Anyone found that??

Also I have found that the surf bar is the best as it doesn't lock up, the freeride was really jerky. And yet I can still jump, tricks etc as it stays into the position you want just by the front line strain. No need for the freeride bar I reckon.

No, I've been through 3 versions so far, still using the V5.1 and its now 2 seasons old and still on the original bungee. Maybe there is a sharp edge on your bar where the bungee passes through? I've got spare bungees, send Kitepower Sydney a self addressed postpak and we'll send you a new one, please specify if its for an 11" or 13" ok?

To add some more, sometimes when you get really yanked to one side with an aggressive jump that you don't edge hard enough, the bar will slide towards where the kite goes sometimes. i actually like it as don't get pulled out of balance (as when the chicken loop is fixed from your centre), and you and your bar can 'follow' the kite back into position.

Dont have to go all the way to Sydney eppo.

Yeah don't wait till you are in Sydney if you live in WA. KSS in Scarborough (and probably Woodies) has the Dynabar range in stock. We will also assist KSS/Woodies with any warranty claims on Jaybar products.

Yes, any Jaybar/Dynabar dealer.

PM'ed u Lance but for the sake of the whole audience....
V7 comes with Dyneema as standard with the option of either the 'freeride' bar - v at the centre to keep ur hook more central - OR prowave - smoother profile to allow more free movement from side to side.
V6 came with all 3. Bit of a waste for almost all customers so only 2 options are now available at a reduced price. Just $159 for the V7.
Also comes in 2 sizes. 11" suits XS & S & M & L or 13" suits M & L and XL
Obviously this means that most M's or L's have a choice of a narrower or wider sliding length.

Clear as mud ??? Come an have a look.
