Hey,
I am a beginner, looking to buy my first kite (I did 3 lessons of 3 hours each), and I was thinking about one of the two below - Duotune Evo vs Rebel. (Both size 9 - ideal to where I live)

What do you recommend for a beginner (I want a kite that I will stay long with)?
(I have got to second-hand offers about both of them from my kiting instructor, and want to hear advice from other guys too)

Hi I would go with a rebel I have 3 a 9,12,and 14 meter great kites that will help you as you progress

I would recommend you read the product description by duotone
The rebel is a high aspect kite focused towards hooked in big jumps
The evo is more of an all rounder and does most disciplines quite well
In my opinion the evo is a better fit for a learner as it is easier to relaunch

Evo mate to start with.

I'm still flying a 2015 9m Dice. She's choice bro

... And the evo is more plug and play orientated. But the new iterations of the rebel (2018 on) have also been dumbed down for the mass market so probably more plug and play than it ever was.

Core is better get an XR

Yeh those core XRs go big man. Never liked the feel of them though at and through the bar. and the nexus I found downright horrible.

But yeh I rate the XR. Great kite.

You didn't mind that bungy thing on the Rebel wingtip for the steering lines? They always felt so mushy to me and the idea of something else to wear out just bothered me...

The bungy on the Rebel was to stop the lines wrapping around the wingtips when the lines were slack. That wasn't the reason the kite felt mushy. The stretchy lines that North specified was what made it feel mushy. Personally liked the feeling as it made it easy to feel the right point to boost as the pressure build up in the harness wasn't so on/off as you get with some kites

Core are ****e ! I got 26 sessions out of a new 10m all the stitching went and they wouldn't cover it ! Never again! Don't waste ure time. Bunch of J ew burners !

Found the core kites far more spongy and indirect at the bar. Or more to the point - a little on and off with power delivery. The old rebel was very linear in its power delivery feel at the bar.
That being said that punchy almost grunty power spike on the XR is probably what makes them go so bloody big. And yeh ... north - duotone lines are crap for sure relatively - I've said plenty on that in the past
plus like all kites you get used to what you ride and eventually adapt.


be honest they are both great kites.


pin puller you were killing it on that core XR - shame to hear about that warranty issue. Weird.

What year are these kites? Overall you'll have more fun and progress with Evo, no question about it.
