Good video. I like the idea of clipping the leash to the kite while the lines are drifting.

I don't know any safer way to do this, but I must warn that the stronger the wind and the higher the chop there more chances the kite can turn over, get airborne and start drifting in the power zone, this can happen so fast you don't even have time to think about releasing the safety....and then of course you get dragged pretty violently once the lines get in tension. This gets pretty scary when you're in ankle deep water but much safer if you are in deeper water. I had this problem a few times in 25 knots + so in those winds I always try to avoid drift launching.
