I've never been one for bagging on the tourists. I've always found them to be stoked on kiting and out to have a good time. Today i had 2 different things really get under my skin in 2 hours of kiting at Melville. I don't want anyone taking anything too seriously but I just wanted to have a bit of a laugh at something annoying that happened to me today. It just happed to be 2 Euro Guys.

Dear Euro Guy,
When someone saves you a long swim by helping you self rescue, and that person ends up with a huge rats nest of lines to sort out as a result of quickly landing, dropping their gear, and coming out to get ahold of your inverted kite....

Instead of packing up and just saying thanks as you wander off back upwind with your mate...... Maybe lend a hand sorting out said ratsnest. Would have been nice.

Dear Euro Guy,
When the wind is starting to die, and your kite is luffing as you do the walk of shame back up Melville Beach, and someone politely asks you to fly your kite over the water so it doesn't end up on the road....... please just do it.

Feel free to add your message to Euro Guy but please keep it civil.

Dear Euro windsurfer a south passage,

The next time you whistle, then angrily shout at me to follow the robotic, tedious, march like run out back I will return the favour with some gold old fashioned Aussie hospitality...

Dear euro guy..

Please don't insult my intelligence by asking for a demo kite at our school knowing that you will never buy a kite. We see types like you all the time.. Usually driving wicked vans and launching from the dunes side. Our kites are not freebies for freeloaders.

They are for CUSTOMERS

when you are driving your rented 4wd on the beach with fully inflated highway tyres, get bogged to the axles in sand, and come to ask me for help- please don't just sit in the car while i do all the shovelling and then drive off with a wave of thanks.

Is it possible that he had waited his turn, was on the swell from way out the back, and was unimpressed with someone gybing onto the wave that he was on, ruining his ride?

That has happened to me a few times at south passage, and is considered really bad form.

Hello.

The above posts are slightly alarming as we all know that bad behaviour from a minority of kitesurfers (i.e. Teuros that are unaware of local usage in this case) can destroy everyone's pleasure in the long term. Here are some suggestions:

Mr WAKSA: brochures aimed at educating visitors were made in different languages several years ago and, I understood, were put at strategical places ( airport). Do they still exist, or shall they be amended? Backpackers accommodation could be included to the strategical places to deliver these brochures. I would be happy to assist with a French translation.

Mr Laurie: Would there be a place on this website to educate visitors on OZ kitesurfing usage, by placing some information for tourists at an obvious location? There is possibly more chance that a Teuro sees some well located information on this website than at the airport.

Regards,

Fred

No. I'm always conscious of this, and it gives me the shts as well. I am also aware that I can get in two, to three waves for each windsurfing tack. I was the only kiter out there with a procession of euros. I always respect the right of way down the line, and I understand why you wrote what you did because I see kiting crew do it all the time.

That has happened to me a few times at south passage, and is considered really bad form.

Hi there
I'm a F.E.K. :-) (****ing Euro Kitesurfer in english in the original)
I try to respect your rules here for that I read all I need to know on waksa website and here on different posts... But perhaps I miss some and I hope you'll tell me about (not about the sails rules cose I'm a sailer before to be a kitesurf but about Your Local Rules)
Fred I think your idea is not bad cose I met other sguys here (french by the way...) who didnt know about the waksa website. For example they wanted to kitesurf in cottesloe....and I think they did even if I told them we cant... :-(
Anyway, Fred could I meet you to talk a little bit of what we can do for the french kitesurfers to educate them ;-)
Regards
Laurent

I had a blowout yesterday at Melville past the 2nd bouy...

3 people offered a hand to tow me in including 1 euro.

Not always correct to judge the nationality judge the person.

I noticed same thing with an good old aussie bogan style hanging his kite over the road walking back cursing about the lack of wind.... After me asking if he wants to land it declining as if i should mind my own business...

Maybe the language barrier makes it harsher :P

Dear Blow-in guy. trying to self-launch your kite at Woodies Beach1 right in the middle of the walkway is poor form, not only that, the little dune creates a big wind-shadow. After you refuse a launch, stuff up, crash your kite into your smoking girlfriend and your dog (IT IS A NATURE RESERVE....NO DOGS). When you yell at me to grab your kite and I dont please dont be too offended!

Dear Euro,
Whilst mowing the lawn on your twin tip at Brighton WA, please read the play, consider kiters riding down the line on waves and certainly don't gybe if front of us as we are tracking in.
Please reframe from standing on the beach with your kite hanging over the water.
Have fun but consider others!

Dear Euro guy....

Cracks me up how you get your hot missus to carry you're kite and then subsequently launch you.... but cracks me up even more when you screw up the launch and crash your stupid core GT onto our school kites when you clearly have no idea on what your doing. Not once, twice but 3 freakin times!

If I had a cannon that shoots pooh balls I would take aim at your chest.

au revoir!

Dear Euro Guy,

After you have learnt the basics of kitesurfing, don't try and post a blog on the internet in English. - No One knows what you are talking about.

Dear Euro, just bring a smile, a friendly attitude and ask about any local rules if you dont know. Follow the circuits at the good spots and youll be gauranteed to get a smile back, after all most of us arent that local.

On a serious note, most of the issues I see with a MINORITY of euros is the total lack of respect for safe distances. I have kited all over the world and in some locations minimum safe distances are just not a reality. In WA we have so many spots we never need to get too close. This is just a cultural thing. We are just so lucky. Imagine tarifa. 300m worth of beach and 40 kiteschools operate off this one spot alone!!!!!

Def worth a read.

Oddly enough - not much talk of smokin hot girlfriends with low standards and a liking for lady-boys, OR how to get ya dishes squeeky clean whilst beach goe-ers cue behind to use the shower.
