Ive always wondered why more kitesurfers or just people in general dont get attacked up north, When i was up that way last time the amount of crocs i saw no one could pay me to get in the water!
Fark yeah - no cups of cement needed for this bloke
Definitaley a Legendary yarn to be repeated for all time
Hope his shoulder doesnt get infected....
Thats what you get when your a beginner out alone at buffalo creek.
All the rest of the Darwin crew were doing an epic 50k downwinder across the harbour.
And yep we all survived. Hardest bit about this day was dodging all the light poles and getting down the boat ramp.
I kite where crocs live. I have a theory about kites and crocs. My thinking is that when crocs are baby's they could be eaten my birds, so when a croc sees my 13m getting around it will **** itself. Plus I'm crashing often so alot of noise.
He was out drifting for 15min, that's a long time. Croc probably didn't even see the kite.
... hmmmmm, yeah the story seems to be a bit weird and some of the details don't add up, but then again it may be the newpaper got it wrong, dunno yet????
What we do know so far is the guy is a visitor and not a regular and went to a spot that none of go to this time of year due to the wind direction. It would have been completely off shore wind and was using a board with boots. Inappropriate gear for inappropriate location.
Gunna look into it if I can.
Robbie :)
ps downwinder was mucho fun!!!!
15 min in water waiting for kite to un-tangle!!?? If you can't get the kite up in 10 minutes it just ain't gonna happen. Think i would have been ballsy enough to wait 5 minutes in that water before i ditched my kite! Although by the sound of it, it might have been the only thing that kept his head above water.
Wow what a story. would be interested to hear the full story.
Hey Robbie can see ha in that pic with dyno and electric pump in hand ya beard. Is getting out of control man!
A little gusty with some lulls, some how no dropped kites.
How long was it Robbie (The official watch wearer)? 1hour 40mins ish i think.
I was on a 14m vegas and a TT and i was going downwind as fast as i could to catch all the 17s and nuggets..
It was a sky full or 17/18m dynos out there.
Epic Epic Day.
This is what makes me hesitant to go up to Ants. I know he's never seen crocs there, but knowing my luck.....
Went out to Buff Creek yesterday - first time in over 5 years. Had trouble relaunching due to lack of skill or wind. Will practice water relaunch and wait for better winds next time. Fortunately Chris? with his 17m Ozone picked up my board for me.
I still owe you a carton Robbie from a few years back when you picked up my board.
Was hoping my wife did not hear about the croc attack - but she texted me this morning about it.

Ouch! You mob be crazy up north
He was just interviewed by triple J. Lucky bloke, his arm and chest was crushed by the crock, he managed to use his left hand and fingered the crocks eye!
i am no expert but shouldn't there be another set of bitemarks from the jaw . Looks to me like he and the girlfriend got a little bit frisky and he copped a few nail scratches .
Something just wreaks of bullsh!t with this story
No dramas about the board Steve, glad I could help. It was not that long ago that it was me bobbing around feeling very venerable a couple of hundred metres off shore, wondering if it would be a croc, shark, or box jellyfish that was going to ruin my day!
Unfortunately missed the downwinder, sounded like an awesome trip!
Can't work out the kiting as Cas beach part of the story, it was blowing from the SE all day??
