Hey Guys,

I was looking to get contents insurance for my kitesurfing gear, I was reading the suncorp PDS and I have found this in it.

So I assume this will cover me in case I kill someone while kitesurfing?

Anyway.. can someone recommend other options for portable valuables insurance?

Thanks.

looks pretty black and white to me that you're covered for liability arising from kite (and drone) usage, but I wonder why they have made such a clear differentiation...

I heard somewhere NRMA/IAG specifically do not cover kites (can anyone confirm this?) so maybe Suncorp has found a niche

With respect insuring your kite equipment, earlier this year I made two separate contents insurance claims with YOUI for damaged kite gear.
I have $3500 specified items cover for some kites and a surfboard and they paid out no problem with two quotes and reports from two suppliers.
I always figured if I was driving to the beach with all my gear in the boot and another driver smashes into the back of me, good bye kite gear to the tune of at least $3500.
I have been told this specified items cover only adds around $120 to my home and contents insurance annual premium.
For the record QBE travel insurance recently paid out on two damaged surfboards (in transit back from a kiting trip to Tonga). That premium was $130 for 10 days.
I am not sure of public liability/personal
indemnity but other posts on seabreeze can assist.
Hope this helps.

Just checked my PDS from APIA who is part of Suncorp, not surprising then that the coverage wording is the same

I have contents away from home (not quite sure if the name) insurance from Westpac. Covers heaps of valuables including sporting equipment. I went to claim a broken surfboard though and they didn't pay because it was 'in use'. When I asked what I could claim a surboard they said loss stolen etc or damage from vehicle. I'm guessing my kite equipment is covered while not in use and may get stolen out of the car which is what I really want anyway.

I heard from a guy who claimed on NRMA a kite being ripped that they only cover damage if done at your home of residence.
The guy i know claimed saying it ripped when it was up in his back yard. No comment!!!
Our insurance cover theft from the beach of the back of my car,not sure who the wife is using for that but sounded good to me.
