Has anyone done much foiling at cocos? I was out there a few years ago on a twintip. Anywhere around kite beach would have been much to shallow for it. If you've done it there, where did you ride? Is it worth being the foil and the twintip?

Just to confirm... Your talking about cocos keeling island right? Where it costs you the equivlant $$$ as it would to fly to any kitespot in world... And you.. want to TRAVEL to go foiling?

Dude theres a volcano full of water in columbia where you could go foiling for same cost and youll get to be coked off your tits cruising around on your magic hoverboard inside what looks like a scene from jurassic park or avatar.

Just shows how boreing you have to be to foil i guess.

you can foil in a water feature at the marriot if you did a running start.

I dont think theres anywhere you can ride a kitesurfboard with fins where you cant foil.

I had to stop reading after no bogans, was laughing to hard.

Not foiled there, but My best bet would be north of the main jetty on West Island. Down winder to Direction island is always epic, time your run with an incoming tide and the ferry for a lift home. Home Island, north of the settlement could also be a goer. You could go off the beach at DI if confident as the wind is a little on shore. Enjoy your trip.

Just as westozwind says you can foil from north of the jetty. Just start downwind of the 3rd mooring so you are outside the exclusion zone.

It takes ~15 minutes to make your way over to Direction Island in case you want to foil in flat deep water.

Where you can foil depends on the length of your mast. I use a 65cm which gives access to a few more areas(but proceed with caution, there are bombies and I'm getting pretty good when it comes to repairing my wing... )

Just keep in mind that during your crossing to DI you got offshore wind and current. So bring a friend or a waterproof radio just to be on the safe side.

if you want to avoid the jetty area all together, drive into the farm and keep following the road. You will get to a larger opening and there is a track through to the beach.

Number is spot on about a friend or a radio, it's a reasonable gap between West & Horsburgh islands. On an outgoing tide, the current is pretty strong and once clear of the lagoon it gets very deep, very quickly!

For foiling its pretty much kitable around the year. If you have something that flies in 10-12 knots you can foil 5-6 days per week around the year and 7 days a week during the kite season.
