Hey breezers,

Converting an old twintip to foil board, buoyancy will be on the edge I think. Planning to cover the deck with something with a bit of buoyancy - had a quick look at clark rubber online and can't see anything, any ideas where to find something like this?

K mart sells these for around $ 10...Could be worth considering ..if all else fails...

EVA foam deck grip gives better grip, but less buoyancy. Plenty on ebay, & some surf shops will stock it. Self adhesive, for a while... though mine lifted after some time as the sticky underneath turned to slime. Might've been a reaction to the coating on the board??IDK, but anyhow All Clear sealant re-sticks it down like a beauty. Great stuff, that!

Yeah that's what i'm looking for but can't find anything decent price, i thought you should be able to buy per metre from somewhere! i used to get offcuts from a sup shop for a tenner - was hoping to get something local but is all obscenely priced

I got a little overexcited and wanted to do it now, but looking like the long china wait...

was wondering about cork, same questions- where do you get it? Just glue on? Does it need sealing?

You can get cork floor tiles from bunnings, cheap as chips. dunno if it would work though i suspect itd crumble pretty quick when saturated. but hey correct me if Im wrong

If you want buoyancy without the softness of the various closed cell foam, you need high density EVA. I use 1cm thickness on my surfboards, partly to prevent dings from frequent boosting (and not always optimal landing). You can buy them with much higher thickness in specialist stores (not Clark Rubber). They are closed cell and extremely light material, and you buy them by the size. You can also layer them, but they must be high density, otherwise they are too soft and eventually let water in.

cheers all - what density do you use andrash? I don't think it needs to be too thick, 1cm would be fine, and as its backed by carbon it won't be doing much for ding protection, just providing a fraction more buoyancy and softer surface (and nicer finish than it currently has)

any suppliers you recommend?

If buoyancy is an issue, you might need more than 1cm. You can calculate how many liters they ad to the "volume" of the board, i.e. depending on surface area. There is a shop in Booragoon, Foam Sales. That's where I bought my stuff. Not sure about the density in numerical value, but it's on the higher end. They will know these things in the shop, if you find someone with a bit more experience, and you can also feel it. They had a workshop at the back. It was a few years back.
For grip, you may need to cover the foam with some deck grip, as it is quite smooth.
