Maybe I haven't been paying attention but this is the first time I've seen this.
Looking up at my lines the other day while just cruising along there appeared to be thin filaments, up to a meter long, coming and going off my lines, like you see off the back of aircraft wings.
Has anyone else seen this? I haven't been doing drugs so it's hard to explain.

Ive seen what you have described a few times also. It seems to occur mainly for me when I'm kiting lakes or lagoons . Ive thought that it might be spider webs that float around getting caught on your lines for a moment before they break off.

Im going with spider web strands. Used to get them all the time kiting downwind of Edward Island at Lancelin.

Yes they're spider web lines, sent out by (usually) tiny spiders to enable them to move from here to there. Travelling as such. They're looking to try to anchor the web and set up camp.
Happens all the time when trolling (slow boat fishing) in the mountain lakes. On really special days in alpine areas a rod can be literally covered in web.
