I've read a lot of your posts over the last couple of days, especially Eppo's older ones and I have narrowed it down to two boards I'd like to demo. I'm looking for a twintip that allows me to have fun in waves while still boosting some jumps on my way out and go up wind both ways. I don't mind toeside, but mainly switch when I hit the surf. I'm just an old school kiter who loves to jump high while playing with the waves, no tricks, handle passes or kite loops. I've been on twintips for 10 years and tried a SB with straps the last couple of years. I ended up Taking 2 boards down to the beach and switching them every hour... I'll keep my twintip for flat water and really strong wind, but would like to replace my SB.
I'm thinking Cardboards Waves or Underground SRF. Not sure about the size though. 140? 148? I'm between 85-90kg, 182cm and usually ride 7m2 or 9m2.
Hope you guys can give me some advice.

sascha you wont go wrong with a cardboards wave, it does everything as advertised and i have a lot of happy customers with this board.

Hey eppo I'm curious about why you got rid of the wave?. You seemed to be frothing over that board a few month back. I'd be keen to hear your comparisson of the wave to the mako king.

I too have flirted with mutant designs, which didn't work out well. I am still very open minded about board designs but am starting to think the best solution for me as a freerider whos loves been in the waves, is for a surfboard shape with twintip construction to take the abuse I dish out. I'm thinking of boards like the undergound kipuna, nobile infinity, and the old spleen zones.

Here's my review on both boards.

I have seen and checked out both but not riden either. tho i have researched mutant boards significantly and made my own mutant board.

SRF is a centered twin tip with the ability to put 3 fins on either or both ends. It has funky rolled rails (gives more surf style carving feel) and is retangular at the ends.

wave. is an off set mutant with a front and a back. it has micro kicks at each end and is more rounded mini surfboard shape.

So based on that what one to get?

SRF will ride more TT orientated with the ability tri fin up one and and hold a little more edge when on the wave.... but it will still primarily feel like a TT. .... If you plan to get rid of your other TT and have just one then this will be the board.

wave will have a more surfboard feel because the stance is more offset. the micro kicks at each end will reduce the chance of nose diving on steep faces. .. .. .. . Get this board if you are going to keep the TT and have a mutant aswell.

ps sizing 148 definately.

Was at the Cardboards factory a little while back and was offered to take a wave to demo. Didn't bother as I was happy to re-order another Cardboard Tempo. After reading this thread think I might pop back and take one for a bash.

There were very few Underground SRF actually ever made it out to stores. Of every reply on this thread it seems not one rider has actually ridden one but are offering opinions?
Seems a little weird to me.
I have ridden the 148 SRF quite a bit and it is really amazing to ride, the carving especially in choppy conditions is very smooth, it really does feel way more like a surfboard than any other twintip I have ridden. It really is a special board.
I doubt you could find one for sale so my comments are not likely to change what you buy.
Plummet, the SRF has three sets of inserts so can be setup unbalanced like a mutant or balanced like a twintip.
My favorite setup was with the three surf fin in the back 2 x 50mm fins on the front and the straps setup like I ride my snowboard 15 degrees back foot 40 degrees front foot. felt great for me like this.
I have not ridden the cardboard so have no opinion on this.

Yes definately, it is not a huge seller but honestly nothing like any twintip out there

thats great to hear. I have never ridden the srf, but have heard nothing but glowing reviews of it. It sounds like a board I have to try

BTW one of the main boards I get around on is a 2007 flx. It has had 6 years of use and abuse and is still in awesome condition. I absolutely love it. Best kitesurfing purchase I ever made. You guys make fantastic boards.

So being a confirmed gear junkie, upto 6 boards, 3tt 3sb, 5 kites, and having owned multiple over 10 years in kiting must do a thread on boards owned, I will offer my observations.

In around 2007, I was obsessed with surf tt's, I tracked down Marc Gondard and had custom oups board made, this is a special board but mainly for high wind and decent waves, I have previously reviewed it. At that time read stuff re mako king, there were none in Aus so I sourced one from NZ and I was super impressed it feels completely different to anything else, is super smooth ride, surfs nice and is great in light wind. I had injury and on sold this to a mate. We then tried the Nobile Shinn mutant surfboard, it was super quick, surfed ok but not as controllable once wind got up and swell picked up.

By start of 2012 I was almost completely on surfboards and being able to tow side and gybe each direction very comfortable. I have been to Mauritius a few times, so decided a tt would be far better to travel with than a SB. So I purchased SRF 148, this is a sweet board, it carves beautifully, is as close to surfboard feel as I have had, although I have not tried CB wave. The SRF is versatile and by changing footstraps/fins it allows you to completely change feel of the board.

Now there is a guy in Oregon John Bellacera, who does custom wood tt's very similar to mako king, have read rave reviews about his boards on kite forum.com but good luck having a demo.

3 sessions on my CB Wave and I'm addicted. It took me a couple of hours to get used to the length (148) compared to my TT, but it's so much better in the Waves. It runs very smoothly upwind and it's shape allows you to get the SB feel once you hit the waves toeside. Whilst I expected the board to be so great in the Waves I wad surprised by the ability to load it and jump like with a TT. The board is pretty long and quite heavy, so I was shocked when I made Airtime like with my TT.
It's an excellent board for days like today in Perth (Brighton Beach) with I guess around 20-25kn, 1-2 m waves and some nice and flat water between the waves. If the wind gets really strong and the water is choppy, I prefer my TT.
I did set the CB Wave up like a TT and haven't tried the 3rd back Fin yet.
Only complain I have is that I feel my back more than after a session with my TT. It might be the length/weight or maybe just my age:)
