Hi - I have a worn out pigtail and for the life of me can't seem to untie the bridle to get a new one on? Everytime i untie a knot it appears to connect into another tied knot and where it connects to the front bladder - more knots. Please help me before it breaks and gets stuck in a tree..again.

How can the knot tie itself? You're not making sense.

If the bridles look feathered and worn, cut it off. Get rid of it and get new ones. Any pigtail set from any kite shop should be a fine replacement. Just make sure the lengths are the same and the same number of knots are there (or make them yourself).

Yeh i didn't articulate my point to well -- my point is - without cutting off the bridle there looks no way of untying it to put on a new pigtail

They're larks-headed onto the LE. You might have to take most of the bridle off

Post a photo of the pigtails, on all kites i've had (ozones), the pigtail is usuall just attatched to the bridle by a loop at the end. I can't see why cabrinha would have a more complicated system for attatching the pigtails, but I've got no experience, so I'm probably wrong.

This is the best photo I could find online... Is it these parts your having problems with, or is it further along?
On another note, why don't kite manufacturers post HD photos of their bridles. I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in seeing them, plus handy for reference when doing kite repairs/ choosing the least complicated or ridiculous system.

Kami is correct, you have to start from the LE and work back to the front pigtail from there, feeding the bridles out of the pulleys at each point.

Make sure you only to ONE side at a time! So you have something to refer to if/when you make a mistake.

I got the same problem, sorry just to clarify at what point do you start removing the bridal? At the wing tip end on the Le just undo? Because of the larks heads it seems like you have to pull the kite through a loop

Look at the connection points on the LE--one or two will be larks heads. Remove that, slide out through pulleys, repeat to the end.

Jesuschrist it's no wonder that people freak out about foils when they can't cope with just a couple of Vs and connection points!

Think about it--how are you going to attach one line securely to two points? One end can be looped though but the other will have to be a larks head. IIRC you only need to undo one LE knot, slide the other line through the pulley then you can change the front pigtail. It's not rocket science, stop doing things the hard way

Hi Billlob,

Have you considered just cutting the line and using some superglue to attach the new pigtail? Chuck a staple in there for extra measure.
At least that way you'll have a chance of getting this sorted and out on the water sometime this side of Christmas.
Let me know and you can borrow my knife

I wish there was an option for a 'face-palm' response, but we can't all be so lucky.
