I'm looking to get opinions from people who owned or used both bars not just read the brochure.

Basically looking for a Cabrinha bar with the most depower distance. Is there any difference between the Trimlight and Recoil with the spring?

I have used both, the 2015 48-56cm recoil overdrive for solid 18 months on three sized kites (7, 9 and 11-metre Drifters) and really didn't have a problem until a catastrophic failure of both bar ends literally pulling apart and both centre-lines breaking resulting in becoming completely de-attached from my kite in the surf in March this year.

I replaced with a 52cm fixed length 2016 Trimlite (one season late but purchased new unused as runout stock) as I loved the idea of a neater wrap of the lines at the end of a session and with the Trimlite you can easily see how much you have trimmed throughout your session. The recoil could be red toggle pulled then black toggle pulled and you never really knew if you were back to neutral, with the Trimlite there is no ambiguity, no trim, a bit of trim or full trim you can easily see how much you have adjusted. I also never adjusted the overdrive bar ends always keeping them on the widest setting regardless of kite size so figured if I needed to replace the recoil I would go with a wide and fixed length bar instead.

I think you mean the sheet out depower where you throw out the bar towards the kite and the kite's wing tips move away from you and you lose the power of the kite, the Trimlite throw is slightly further than recoil but it was rare, yet possible to push the recoil bar into the springs depowering more than the default spring position.

I would highly recommend the Cabrinha Trimlite bar, excellent safety release and re-rig capabilities, lines within tubing running through to the chicken loop so no finger skin rubbing nor wear against the inner surface of the bar "hole", excellent smooth spinning toggle to unwind after kite looping, the lines themselves feel strong, waxy even and don't tend to tangle easily and as mentioned earlier, the lines are easy to wrap up at the end of your session.

Yes I mean depower bar throw. Does the Recoil bar have more throw compared to the Trimlight when pushed to the max spring compression?

I usually ride overpowered and want the most depower throw I can get.

we need red thumbs. hoger cant tell how much he depowered his cabrinha on recoil bar. seriously

not familiar with the trimlite but if you are riding that overpowered anyway (spring fully compressed) you will not even be able to reach the bar let alone control the kite

looking at the bars side by side it looks like the recoil might still have more throw (but with spring compressed)

I have a 2016 trimlite. Having used the recoil as well I recommend the trimlite. It comes down to personal preference but I like the cleaner look of the trimlite when compared to the recoil bar. Great bar and I use it with my 12m SwitchBlade.

You won't be disappointed.

Beware there's a rando safety issue with the trimlite where the depower line jams in the tube/clear. As far as I know it's still not fixed ?

Just another option:
Rather than looking to buy a new bar, you could modify any bar & set the depower throw to where you want it.

I own both and I can't tell the difference with regards to the de-power throw. Not saying there's no difference only that it's not noticeable to me. Personally I like the simplicity of the Trimlight and if I was to purchase another bar tomorrow that's what it would be...

Geez hodger. When we finally catch up for a beer, I gotta hear that story in person. Sounds like a good one. Person preference is the key. I always found the recoil system a bit confusing when needed in a hurry (super gusty inland conditions) definitely only like to run a clam cleat style set up now. 100%a better option when in waves and you only want to ever think about the wave or board
