Strange. I've noticed a bit of a drop in the amount of interest around products on SB buy and sell, but that could also just be me (although others have said the same).

I have interest trying to buy stuff ,but is it really for sale or how old are the ads

I think a feedback system would be good, something like ebay - I got stitched up on postage with one guy and I can't leave any feedback or anything.

Gumtree has been working for me.

Some crazy cheap gear going ATM, mate picked up 2 core gts 2 complete 7&9 as new for $1300 , if you want top money then you'll be hanging on to it ,

That's the problem Cauncy, the majority of sellers on Seabreeze think their gear is worth top dollar so i assume they just ignore the PM. 89 pages of kites for sale clearly indicate that they are actually worth SFA after a couple of seasons.

Gumtree users seem to be a little more aware of what things cost. Better chance to score a bargain from a motivated seller.

I can't get $200 bucks for a 9m fuel. Markets dead. Market for new kites also dead.

Too many sharks I think.

I've got 5 kites I'm thinking of selling, ( would like to sell),realistically based on what my mate paid I'd be lucky to get, $2400 for the lot, my hadlows 8 ,10,12 are as new, actually never flown 12, my ozones 7, 10 are used but in great condition, I've been given a good quote for 2 new kites at $3300, my reason for wanting to sell is if I keep them another year then they'd be worth zip, unfortunately it doesn't seem worth moving them on,

Classic, I Just had a look on buy and sell and there's a M8 twin tip from 2008 that is selling for the same price as 2014 shinn monks.

Any way, you don't get anything for old kites so I either trade them and take out the hassle or just give them to my bro.

Yes first question I always get "is it still available" then they try and negotiate the price down without even taking the time to check out the item.

SB removes (expires) ads after a while if they have not been edited, also feel free to report any dead ads.

A feedback forum would be good but could easily be abused. I would love to expose the seller who sold me a kite with no repairs but arrives covered in tape.

I have always found the system works well for selling at least, I have never bought anything. The key points for me are make sure your price is relative to the market and the value of the item. You can always search similar items before placing you add. I usually then put my add slightly cheaper for a quick response.

Also so put actual photos of the gear and not images from the Internet. People want to see the real thing. Lastly, be prepared to talk to the buyers and work out if what you are selling is really right for them. I have turned down potential buyers with some advice and told some to have lessons before I will even talk about a sale.

PS not all gear is ideal for learning as half the adds suggest...

If even half the ads on seabreeze are still current then there is a ridiculous amount of stuff for sale and the prices listed are pure fantasy.

Do people just expect to be haggled down by 30% or so or are they really that deluded about what the market will pay for used gear?

I've bought and sold a number of times on Seabreeze. And with the exception of one item generally not being as per described, it's been pretty good. I'd still prefer to buy and sell here than ebay.

I've had my slingshot fuel up (brand newey) for $700 all I was getting was low ballers offering $200-$300???

Now got my Shinn Dundee up, will take the same path if that happens and head over to gumtree.....

I think the market will increase once the average joe looks at this years kite prices.

I've been looking for a 10mtr reo and ads are asking 900 bucks for a 2012 bit steep plus I want bar and lines lots of kite only sales not ideal if you're trying different brand

Sorry to hear read this, a few people dissappointed.

Some facts:

* The Seabreeze Buy & Sell has the largest listing of Kitesurfing Gear in Australia.

* The Seabreeze Buy & Sell has the largest number of viewings of Kitesurfing Gear in Australia.

* Kitesurfing gear listing & sold are just as many as last year.


If your kite is not selling, it's just like real estate .. if you put it in for $1, it would sell immediately, yes? If you ask too much (there is a massive amount of gear to choose from), then you need to review your price.


If you've been duped, you need to tell us about it! We've had one, maybe two people report other users to us in the last 12 months, making it about 3 in total since the classifieds began about 8 years ago. Don't keep it a secret, let us know.


We've often thought about a feedback system, but it would be just as open to abuse as any system. i.e. Because we don't process the transaction (as ebay do), there is no direct coupling between the buyer & the seller, so anybody could effectively write anything about anybody. This applies to every site except ebay - if you have a solution, I'm all ears!

We do have is a "Recent Sales" which is on the Sellers profile, where you can see a list of transactions, how long they've been a member, that kind of thing.

I'm really keen to maintain the integrity of the Buy & Sell, so please:

- If you've been duped, or think you have, let us know. We can investigate and ban/block members accordingly.

I'm pretty sure the shops are interested in satisfied customers (which clearly you're not), and if they've left something online, hopefully just a clerical oversight until they get to it. If you believe it's ongoing, then let us (or the shop) know. :-)

As above, unless there is some tight coupling between buyers (as per an auction sytem like ebay, where ebay take the money), any other system is open to abuse via fake feedback.

If you have any ideas on a solution, I'm all ears.

I see you've had your 5 items listed without photos for just 6 days (last Thursday). With no photos and really short descriptions, at the very least, some additional text might help get more interest.

See what happens on Gumtree... you'll get real low ball offers! I've sold 50+ items on there and you have no chance unless a buyer is desperate (unlikely in this economy) or its priced to sell. A forklift i sold last week owed $10k in engine and hydraulic repairs alone so i thought 5k was a fair price. Nothing but the day i dropped to 2.5k i had 4 blokes call and it was sold that day.

Theres a bloke selling a 9m core gt for $550. Over 6 years it's at least 800 sessions old and realistically its worth $50 but imagine if i made that low ball.

What people think their gear is worth and what it actually is worth are usually very different unfortunately. It's not an issue with kites but all these FIFO people selling nice cars, jet skis and other toys with finance owing are going to be royally ****ed.

I do concur with the Loft though. I too have noticed a few shops, especially QLD for some reason, are putting up ads and leaving them there for weeks and weeks. Another culprit is someone in SA. I am sure they just do it to attract customers and direct them into "other more suitable" products.

Certainly a lot of kooks here need to be educated and considering the low Aussie dollar now, things can only get more expensive. But so what!?

If you really don't have $1000, but more like $300 then DO NOT hassle and start conversations with people that are selling gear well above what you can afford.

but seriously now you need to put some fat in the price cause everyone is always trying to haggle you down.

A buy sell swap could also work IMHO, were all looking to change in disciplines, wrong size decisions, stepping up in performance, or down, I'd happily swap some of my kites as long as they were of similar condition
