I'm going to build a wakeskate for wakeboarding/kitesurfing but I hear the most important thing is the rocker.

Has anyone got any info on rocker size and shape

Any other tips would be much appreciated

Have a chat to Marshal - "Hayman" is his user name on here.
He's made a kite specific wakeskate that is awesome, it's got a perfect rockerline, concave base and sharp rails...
He knows his stuff and if your in Brisbane, he can probably show you how to do it...

He's also made a winch for when your finished making it

A kite company is bringing out a wakeskate and another funboard out very soon. Can get some ideas from them

what ideas are you gonna get from an overpriced kite company skate?? I can tell you exactly what it will be right now. A normal wakeskate with a bit less rocker.... there you go.

Ok kinda mean, hes what you need;
116-118cm long, 42cm wide, 2-2.4inch rocker.

p.s. "sharp" rails on a wakeskate isn't actually good.

There is a heap of stuff on rocker size if you do some internet searching, dont know how much will be skate specific but the theory will be there.

When I built my board I found by far the most sites were written in French, so if you dont know a ridup from a croak then find somone who does! (pardon the frog gag, it is monday morning!)

here a wake skate i built a long time ago no fins , straps or handles , but it does have a constant rocker and no concave and has a sugar coat deck grip . goes up wind as good a as strapped board , 180 flips heaps of skate board tricks , it is very surprising how easy these type of boards are to ride

Is that Balsawood? What thickness? I am looking at building a skimboard at the moment out of balsa and epoxy. Look sweet.

from memory i think it has 3x 6oz glass , balsa ,1x6oz, directional carbon, airex 6mm1x6oz ,balsa , 2x6oz glass vacuum baged on a premade rocker jig.
with out the concave and all that glass the board is still very flexiable but it works perfect for this set up . the total thickness ended up 10mm

KAOS, that's a good looking board!
Love the graphics. Did you draw/design the picture yourself?

there where a few different ways i use to the graphics , this particular one i think was a airbush one straight onto the balsa and then glassed over . this board i made over 4 years ago so i guess the airbrush lasted

Kaos, that board looks like a professional job. Do have some previous experience making boards? and is it hard to do?. How much would you estimate the board cost to make?
If I could build a board like that I would be building heaps of them, all different sizes.

That is a sick lookin board koas! Vac baggin is a bit out my league though. I was just gonna bond 6 3mm sheets of ply with epoxy. would that be too flexible? am i better using a harder wood cus I still wanna use this behind my boat.

I've also got a digital image I wanna put on the base. How can I do this? I was thinkin just print it on paper and epoxy it then urathane the lot.

Thanx for all the info peeps

how much rocker ? most wake boards have over 60mm wakeskates around 40mm and most kiteboards around 35mm so would you make a kite specific wakeskate with 25-30mm ? or the same as a normal wakeskate

i hav a wakeskate that i built for kiteboarding.. i still use that behind the boat and it is good for both i think i used 2 x 9mm ply sheets. i used epoxy resin to glue the two together. to get the rocker i jacked up the car's wheel, put some packing under each end(the amount of rocker u end up deciding on). u will need to get a fair few g-clamps to hold the 2 peices of ply together where the wheel isn't holding together. Be careful when gluing the 2 pieces of ply together as it can stik to the shed floor (still got half a wakeskate stuck to the shed floor from another one i made a while ago). u can then sand the whole lot lightly and the give it a coat of resin while the resin is still wet throw some rock salt on it to give grip. to add fins get some countersunk s/s bolts with the same thread as some old kiteboard fins(u should only need 2) and position where the fins should end up and drill through the deck. get a little bit of resin and put it into the holes to seal it. when you are down pour warm water on the rock salt to get rid of it and attach fins.

Sbray, thanks for the links.

For those who want some basic (albeit very dated) info....

Good for a laugh at some of the wild ideas these guys have tried.
