Hi I've booked a trip for start December 1 week Palawan then 1 week Borocay.
Is the wind likely to be ok then.
What size kites would you recommend for an 80kg person. ( thinking taking 2 sizes)
I was thinking of packing a bar, harness, pump, and 2 kites in a suit case and hopefully hire a board over there to avoid excess baggage costs hassles or sports baggage size costs.

Are there places where I could easily hire a board.?

What areas are the kite schools kiting areas located ?
What would be a rough cost to hire just a board or full kit?

You would greatly increase your chances to get first hand information by posting on popular facebook kite groups, reddit kite forums and kiteforum as well. In fact, quick internet searches with the right keywords reveal plenty of first hand information i.e. other people who asked the same questions as you did about the same locations with plenty of great answers. Some of those answers were used in the above information I shared already.

Hi , I have been to Boracay 5-6 over the years, you should 8/9 small kites and 11/12 bigger ones , don't bother taking a pump because where ever you hire your board they will have a beach area to pump up they will have beach boys to do it . Bulabog beach is the kiting spot and one of the kite schools I hang out at is freestyle Academy the owner is Ken and nice guy good vibes.

lived on bulabog for 8 months or so but this was back in 2012 pre duterte

i dont know what to tell ya

lots of spikey little ****ers but you can get the japanese restaurant to cook em for ya as revenge.

i had the jet ski guys kill my cats kittens cause i was feeding them better quality tins of tuna then what they were eating

the mdma from cambodia was pretty fire at the time

you can live there for 30 years and 20 yr old tauts will still harass you as if your a tourist despite your kids being local there for as long as theyve been alive. [more of my dive buddys story then mine that one but i was right there every damn day confused why he got treated as a tourist ]

you always has been always will be a walking wallet im very grateful i had basically no money and was in my early 20s

if you can pay for a couple packs of marlboro lights and i think 4 san miguels at the red pirate bar to clear my tab thatd be nice also scrub my name off half the walls around town for me to cheers

theres also another joint called something WANG i really dont understand what your excpecting. theres a bar where you can throw midgets at stuff. requesting food reccomendations in a 3rd world country is just ridiculous

prepare yourself for sitting on childrens sized plastic stools and when you order something on the menu and you hear a commotion in the house and see a little old man jump on a bike and pedal away thats someone getting the stupid bloody thing you ordered off the menu like a dumb westerner rather then just seeing with your own eyes whats available and getting that instead


as far as accommodation goes i highly reccomend you just sleep on the beach for free as long as your not near too many restaurants the overwhelming stench of rubbish wont affect you or you can be a clown and just pay for some joint something like boracay kite resort or whatever maybe hangin or habigat amihan etc etc so random joint vaguely named after the wind or whatever the resorts selling

but for real plenty of hammocks on the beach if you drink enough youll end up there anyways one night i woke up in a hammock that was suspended maybe 8 meters above a bar i dont really remember getting into it but i was shown the photos a few days later they offered me free drinks while i was up there and apparently stayed theyre for some time

the markets are pretty average even if you go early and if you go into one the western shops with aircon your a suckerand deserve what ya get altho i must admit theyre was a nice european style sandwhich shop on whitebeach but i think the sandwhiches cost soemthing like a weeks worth of rent at the locals village a few blocks from the cop shop where the bottls of rum were like 5$ [liter bottles] that tanduay truth syrum will get you into some troubles

Boracay is a good spot for kiting. I was there in December 2023. Wind tends to be stronger in the mornings, but most afternoons were still ~15 knots. There's several kite schools that rent gear. I took 10m and 15m kites and rented whatever board suited the day's conditions best.
I stayed at the Lazy Dog Bed n Breakfast around the corner from the beach, which was perfect for me, but there's plenty of hotel options.

The kite beach (Bulabog) is a shallow lagoon that dries up on very low tides, so water is pretty flat. Apparently the town sewer outlet used to be there, but they've invested in a blue plastic pipe to dump it out deeper. You can jump over the pipe. but don't use it for rail slides.

Most of the tourists in Boracay are Filipino and stick to the white sandy beach on the leeward side of the island. There's an interesting collection of local and visiting kiters on the windward/kite beach. I met Russians avoiding conscription, Americans avoiding winter, and a few long term expats. You can walk to the touristy side in 10 minutes for food, shopping, crowds and nightlife.

I recommend taking an old kite along, so you can donate it to one of the teenage boys who earn tips helping you set up and land. You'll make their day, since average pay there is ~1/10th of the Aussie average.
