G'Day, I'm on average 100kg +/- a few and can get up and ride, just starting turns and attempting upwind on 138tt. I have to replace my kite because it has gone missing. Usual conditions 15-25 kn flattish, small chop water. I'm open to suggestions for kite and size but need to buy soon coz I'm dying to get out again.... just started progressing regularly.

14m best nemesis, my mate is 100kg and this is what he uses with a 132x41 nobile 666, works for him, as 14m is not so big that it moves slowly, so in marginal conditions you can work it.

If you want grunt i have heard the North Rhino is really good...

I'm 100+ kg and use a 14mtr 08 North rhino, heaps of grunt, heaps of depower, fast turning, awsome kite. Try one if you can. you cant go wrong with one of these.

how wide is your tt .if its under 41 cm i woulkd be looking at that as a major impediment to progress in the lighter stuff .

Board size is a consideration to think about, I ride a 141x41 north xride and wouldn't consider going any smaller than that. Us bigger guys need all the float we can get.

I weigh about the same as you at around 100. Ride in similar conditions, but have been doing so for another coupla years... I'd suggest an F-one Bandit. Loads of grunt loads of depower. I've had an 11m since November last year. Haven't really needed another size kite except on those days the wind is honking or dead. I also ride a narrow 142cm twintip..

A 12 meter Airush Flow will kill it in 15kts at your weight. Don't go a 14m unless you have to, they are too big. 08 Flows are great and will be going cheap with the new 09 model about to hit the streets.

I disagree, I reckon a 12m low aspect C kite will kill nothing but your speed at your weight in 15 knots, you'll be lucky to get out of the water.

Hold on, before I posted the above and looked like a total fool I see the Flow is no longer a C-kite.

A 12m SLE could do the trick. I had a go on some sort of North 14m SLE one day, can't remember what model, that certainly did the trick as well (I'm 110kg). I didn't think it was too slow to turn.

PS. if you get your flying skills right up there is no reason that you couldn't drop to a 12m kite and then you just need the right boards for the right conditions.

the 2008 12m nemisis HP i have for sale will easily get you going, it got me and a mate up together in around 15 knots two days ago [i'm 80, he's ~75]. It really does have a lot of power, it also turns fast for it's size.

Mate I'm 100 kg's and fly a naish boxer 12m and ozone instinct sport 15m with underground 142 board. The 12 metre kite is great in 15 knots and honking in 20 - so good that I don't use the 15 unless it's blowing 12 or 13knots.

Got to agree with the others - a bigger board will help for sure.

Big boards are great regardless of any size kite, riding becomes more fluid.

The twin tip board width depends on your weight. You're 100kgs I would go for a 42cm wide board.
Gauge the length by measuring from the ground to under your arm pit.
Thats the ideal length as you will have good length to ride comfortably fast through chop and your height will lever the board for good edging in any strength wind.
Kites with good depower will let you ride this size.

Actually talking about in expensive 2008 kites with good depower.

I'm 103kg and 6'5" the 14m Rebel (I happen to ride rebel's but there's a ton of other good kites out there the Bandit is worth a look) is the go for me in the 13-20 knot range,

The US Kiteboarder mag web site ( www.kiteboardingmag.com/gear.jsp ) has a pretty good review section as they have reviews for pretty much any kite ever made.

For any of you bigger guys riding the 142 x-rides give the 135 a go in over 14/15 knots I think you'd be pleasently surprised. I stepped down in size this year and I've only got good things to say about it. Though I still need the bigger board when there's no wind but I always did with the 142 any ways.

The Latest Flows are pretty good (since 07). I push 95kg and my old 12m Flow SLE got me going well in 13/14kts. They are grunty. The 09 ones look interesting with the flat apex on them and should have even more grunt.

I hate large kites, they are too slow in light winds - you can do better using a light wind board on a smaller kite if you are just talking about a knot or two at the bottom end.

mate north rhino is the go for bigger guys,
ive tryed alot of kite and being a big fellor(all musle lol) and its the only kite.
im now riding a 08 12 rhino in 15 nts and loving it , the same kite ive had out in 35 knts it was abit hairy but f@ck it was fun.
all i can say give one ago .

see luke at kite action on the sunny coast good fellor and will do a great deal....

as being mentioned. you have to take a bigger board that is definitely something arround 138 x 42. then you can take everything arround 12-14m. consider Flysurfer as well. As damo has recognised. there are heaps overseas. and as well known. there are good for lightwind - bigger guys.

I'm your size and I used to ride Rhino 16m C's now I've found Ozones at 13m are the biggest I need. Simple, no maintenance.

very true save the whales, i got the 14mtr rhino because in winter i get fatter and when summer hits all my muscles pump up and i turn into a monster. Stuff loosing weight i just get stronger

Thanks for all the feedback. I reckon I have narrowed my choice down to Rhino 12 or 14; Ozone Sport 13 or Fone Bandit13. My 'lost' kite was an 11m bow style kite.
Btw, my board is 138x40.

Another vote for the F-One Bandit from me.
I weight 90+ kgs, ride an FLX 138 and I use the 08 13mtr Bandit from about 13 to 25 knots. It still flies ok in stronger winds but I like to use my 9 once it gets over 20 knots.
They are a grunty,stable,easily relaunchable, good allround kite with heaps of depower and are reasonably fast turning for their size.
My only complaint is that unless the leading edge is pumped up really hard it can distort when turned hard,(sort of folds where the outermost attachment point for the frontline bridle is) but keep enough pressure in it and it is sweet as.
I believe the new 09 model will have another attachment point for the front lines on the LE to counter this but not 100% sure, however as I said it is not a problem if pumped up hard enough.

I'm 110kg, i ride a 13m f-one bandit from 12 kt (on my 666ext 48 wide) to 30kt on my 666 132x41.

Wicked kite, loads of grunt. Keep in mind that the new ones will be out shortly, so you may be able to get them on runout prices soon.
