I recon Lancelin sand dunes would be a great spot to try this, softer landing than the side of a mountain.

hollly cr@p. That looks very scary. looks like a real gamble to me. I would never do anything that risky but have often wondered about it... there's definitely a fine line in my head between what makes a legend and what makes a d!ck he@d. I guess it comes down to how many times he can do it without dying or serious injury...

why dozent he drift downwind? is it because of the sand dune ramping the wind up into the sky keeping him in the same spot? anyway some1 give this kook a board

dont try it at lanno unless you wanna break a leg. the dunes are too small and go down again too quick

how windy do you think it is there? what size kite is he using?

mostly updraft effecting his hangtime , can see the windsock is blowing upwards not straight across, park a kite too close above a 20 meter high wall with say 30 knot winds and , if he drifted too far forward away from that ridge he would probably start to decend.

Why is everyone so negative? Should he be wrapped in bubblewrap?

It's the same updraft wind that paragliders and hang-gliders use.

The main danger is equipment failure or getting in the dead air on the back of the slope.

Paragliders and hang-gliders face the same risks.

in that balloon clip, where does his kite go? board or kite could have done damage below. must have been pretty high in the balloon to start with. he fell for ages.

bigwavedude.. gotta make sure you don't go out of the updraft in front of the cliff as well I would assume. (not just too far over the top). also assume a 13 m waroo would be a lot riskier than a paraglider (for paragliding). I guess riskier could also mean a little less peaceful and a lot more exciting... at least if you have an accident in your pants you wont be sitting on it like you would be paragliding.

Flying out of the updraft in front of a slope would usually result in a soft landing because of the lift generated by the kite in the prevailing wind. Behind the slope is dead air and turbulence and would be an unstable, dangerous landing with the kite unable to generate any kind of lift.

This dead air is really fun to fly a remote controlled glider through. The acceleration you can achieve is unreal.
