Has anybody here ever had their bar snap in two for no apparent reason? I am not going to post the make of the kite but here is the explanation as forwarded to me by a friend:

Well, today takes the biscuit. I was riding in an
isolated lagoon, just off the main beach. Anyway, there I am
riding a long, doing nothing special, 20 knots of gusty wind and the
f*****g bar snaps in two, one half flying off across the horizon, the
other in my palm, the force of which snaps my centre line before the
'Y´connectors. Go figure. Could have been dangerous but luckily one of
the kiters I was with managed to grab my kite.

I would be interested to hear if this has happened to anyone else?

Cheers

Fairly sure it would be a warranty claim on most of the top brands unless the kite is quite old.
What kite was it?

I have seen it happen on several brands of kites, there can be flaws in production. Some people treat their bars badly too. Its not common, but yeah like you say it can be quite dangerous, because it always happens by surprise doesn't it?

Ok cheers Steve, so its not an isolated incident.

I can't comment on brand as I am getting this info second hand plus I do not want to mess with any warranty claim. My friend is aware of this post so he might name and shame. To put peoples minds at rest though you can no longer buy this model of kite.

Cheers
