Hi guys and gals,

I took up the sport last year and a few sessions under my belt (maybe 20-40). I can comfortably cruize up wind, ride toe side and land little jumps. As a result, I'm thinking of upgrading my gear (board/ kite).

I have a 2008 nobile 666 board (132 x 41) and 2010 Naish Cult (10.5m).

FYI - I'm generally happy with the gear. If there is enough wind to keep the kite in the sky then there is enough for me to get moving. I generally go to St Kilda or Altona (16-25kts) where it sometimes gets quite choppy with small waves. Only complaint is spray off the board. FYI - I weigh 69kg.

Should I upgrade or should I just shut-up and get on with it.

Thanks - Monty

I thought 2010 was the last year before the Cult ceased to exist?

Anyway... with a kite that new, I'm not sure I would bother upgrading just yet unless you really feel the need to. At your level, the Cult will do all and more you ask of it. Sure, if you need a smaller or larger kite go for it.

Board wise, if you like Nobile (I do), but you want more rocker and less spray, consider the NHP. Virtually no spray, and more rocker on the board makes landing those tentative first boost n'pop moves so much easier

Thanks PomE. My mistake. I double checked and you are right. Cult 2010. I've corrected the type in my initial post. And thanks for your thoughts

I've got a 2010 Cult 10.5 - really stable kite to fly, bit low on bottom end power but as a wave kite does the trick for me. Can be tricky to relaunch in very light winds and not a fan of the below the bar depower.
I wouldn't be upgrading for the sake of it as I think it would be a great beginners kite.

Don't believe all the hype about he latest gear. The 2010 Cult is a great kite. I have one. You won't do better on a new kite. If you want to spend some money then get a second kite to extend your comfortable wind range.

Thanks guys. Just wanted to get some second opinions from those "in the know" as I keep reading reviews about new board and kite technologies.

Holgs - I actually had a second kite (12mt 2009 Cult). But ended up selling it as I hardly used it. The 10.5mt covers all the bases for me - from around 16kts to +25kts. As long as there is enought wind to keep it up then I can get around. I think at below 16kts it barely even launches

Reviews are next to useless IMO-even if from an impartial source, everyone looks for different things in their gear and reckon they own the best kit. Best bet is to demo some gear and see if you like it more than your own.

(I got a little used 2010 Cult with completely unused bar/lines if you need a bit more range )

(or a 2010 Nobile NHP 134 if you want to stop the spray )
