Just watched the report and quite frankly been around long enough not to judge on a news report especially one partially fuelled by a "social media "personality. Tragic - absolutely but how do we know if the person had the skill or ability to assist.
Just saying: Don't be in a hurry to cast the first stone.

Agree that one should be carefull to draw conclusions from the 9 news crap. However skills cannot be into the equation, one can always ditch their gear, priority is to try and save a life.

My patrol responded to this call. Thankfully for me I didn't go. Iv seen my fair share of tragedy already. we are having a pretty hard time up here at the moment. What I can tell you, is that conditions were very tough that day. I'm sure there were alot of novice surfers in the water who would not have been able to help. And if I had to take a guess, it sounds like the kiter was rubber necking. pretty human response. Dbah isnt a super easy beach to kite and I wouldnt advise just anyone attempting a rescue there. Iys a small beach with a rock headland and rock wall either side.
Lifeguards and Lifesavers have to put our opinions aside, but General public do not. Sounds like these kids tempers are a bit hot in the aftermath of tragedy. It's not easy pulling an absent life from the water. You spend a long time after trying to figure out what you could have done better and how it could have been avoided.
Stay between the flags please! Unless your kiting then stay away...

Yeah see your point, fair enough. Guess it is an individuals choice. I do not think I would be able to look in the mirror if I left somebody drown without trying everything in my power. Lets hope I never find out.

Will we now see anti-kiting shirts in BCF? Hueys vs. kites.

yes. that's how I read his complaint of the kiter. Ozone point is that he shouldn't be blasting off on social media to glorify his own involvement. Do much of that sort of thing happends

I respect your courage mate. Iv been unfortunate enough to be involved in 2 incidents in the last 2 years on the beach next to Dbah that resulted in the deaths of the ones trying to rescue the struggling people, one of which was an off duty (ex) lifeguard. I shudder to think of that sort of thing happening again.

I can see your POV.

We can wonder if thats really what was happening though? The person doing the rescue would have been in a high state of stress himself. For him to then blast out at any other person he judged as "standing around doing F--- all" just proves how much of a DH he is.
It just appears he is using the situation to drum up attention for himself and his dodgy business, which is really poor form. Good on him if he was involved in the rescue attempt, but he should have kept his big mouth shut out of respect for the deceased and all the witnesses.
The kite boarder may have been trying to help, I'm pretty sure he would not be trying to impress or endanger anyone.
The witnesses who supposedly did nothing are not at fault and it is insane for loudmouth to imply that they were and irresponsible for Channel 9 to broadcast that BS.

I rescued a few people with my kite and surfboard. Usually you calm them down and tell them to hold onto the board. If they are in a panic they grab your bar and all hell breaks loose. Those "Mad Hueys" are absolute idiots. They denergate woman they drink and fish and surf. These boys should have their head read as social media can turn on you very quickly and down their business plan goes... If I was sponsoring them (Hello Mitsubishi) I would be thonking very hard about their online presence very seriously.

Right on. They are idiots and anything said by them should be taken with a grain of salt.

The real question is why was someone kiting dbah on Christmas Day. On a normal day it's packed and Christmas Day would have been a whole different level.
