EJ played dirty but the others didn't? Curious as we don't often get to here the behind the scenes protest stuff.

Very concerning that the article seems to be a series of personal attacks, with multiple inaccuracies and should be withdrawn. I have written to the moderators to ask for this.

Yeah I would like to know who wrote the article as they seem to have an agenda and don't know their arse from their elbow when it comes to racing!

EJ is a top bloke, a great sportsman and one of if not the fastest kite racer here in OZ at the moment

"News" like this should be unbiased and not personal. But most importantly it should be accurate to what happened which this article is not! So I would also like to see It taken down.

that post has been edited . i read it yesterday or monday and there was no mention about the line touch or the board damages so yer the post has been edited

I didnt write the article but the issue re startline and myself getting DNQ (loosing 2nd position) for a minor line touch is true.
In my case i got DNQ for a line touch (which wasnt even my fault as wind just died and kite dropped) the protester got his his wife into the protest room (she was standing on the beach) as a witness to get me DNQ which really pissed me off.
Then i got a 2nd DNQ in last race with an incident involving same person which cost me to loose gold and silver for the regatta. Now thats not cool at all!

If somebody is involved in 90% of all protests then you should maybe raise the question WHY?

i dont want to personally attack but thats clearly what happened in my cases.

I am all for fair, respectful and clean racing but unfortunately this was not always the case in Brisbane.

For example in Auckland we didnt have any protests.

For future racing events i strongly recommend to have at least one kiter in the jury and i am considering to ride with a gopro camera to have video evidence if needed.

Marvin you raced incredibly and I, like most had a very enjoyable regatta. There was an international jury & race committee and we must rely on them to keep it fair. It is still early for kite racing and the rules are still being improved. We are seeing this with revisions. Also as our skills improve, we can hope that there are less collisions.

In the first case - everyone was shocked that you were disqualified - but that was the judgement of the jury. You were upwind and the rules are clear that it is your job to keep clear. Disqualification was extremely harsh. If you had done a 360 penalty turn - you would not have been disqualified and you would have kept your place in that race.

In the second incident - you were the one that protested - you initiated it! You would not have been disqualified in the second incident if you had not protested. If you had not done this protest, even after above - you would have got second. I have taken a good lesson from watching all this - entering that protest room is really a 50/50 chance.

I hope in future events that we can keep protests down, but also race hard and what happens on the water - stays on the water. Also there are some simple lessons to be learnt - do your 360 penalty turns, and when you initiate a protest against someone else - it is possible that you may be the one called in the wrong.

Damo must have hiding in the bushes watching us race at Sail Brisbane to have such a SOLID voice on subject -

The professor - Archie00- as always knows what he is taking about.

The boyz played hard - and Jordan just smiled all the way to GOLD

I thought the whole fleet was fast, cool and raced hard with no room given at all from anyone for errors.

IMO the total mix racers lifted the fleet to a new high Australian level in kite racing - and personally I found everyone was cool with advice on starts, boards, kites and fins and the fleet all got way faster by day 4.

Loved it all ( even though I dislocated my shoulder Day 2 - race 1) and thought the crew at Sail Brisbane were professional, put together excellent racing and were very friendly. Until next time ....

dude i would have done a 360 turn if i was yelled at protest but i wasnt which even pisses me off more!

pretty obvious why it wasnt shouted.

regarding the 2nd DNQ i had a witness that said what i stated and still got DNQ- brrrt.

Jalen's case was clear and it got thrown out..all a bit much buddy but its over so doesnt matter anymore.

these were only two protests i was involved in @ JB Fltech!

I come from a strong sailing background and have done my time in the protest room on all sides of the table protesting, protested and also on a few protest committees. So the rules are nothing new to me.

I was blown away in Melbourne by how little kite course racers new about the rules even at the top level!

Rules are a huge part of course racing! If you don't believe me then sit down and watch a start sequence from any Americas cup race or other high level sailing race.

Using the rules to your advantage is not playing dirty! If you have the dedication to sit down and read/learn the rule book then you should be rewarded and if someone else does something detrimental to your race strategy and you can use the rules to your advantage then it should be done.

If someone cant be bothered to learn the rules then they shouldn't be out on the water racing!

Maybe it would be a good idea if we could organise Yachting Australia to hold a rules seminar for us all at the next big kite race?

Now Marve and Johno you both know I love yaz both so please don't think I'm having a go.

I'm new to this sport and would love to do a course betta still are there any good rule books out there and if so where to buy?

I'll be getting my vitamin C boost in 2 weeks & I comin for ya Johnno & Sean

Although most of the rules for kite racing are the same as normal sailing, there is a pdf download of the kite rules from the IKA website, probly also available on the ISAF site.
