Anyone found any decent spot for learning to foil in westerly winds on the Sunny Coast?
Sure, it's going to be cold & gusty but I have the time off work now.
I'm thinking Mooloolba in NW & maybe Golden Beach when its SW.

Mooloolaba looks ok for NW on google maps. Golden beach doesn't look the best and from memory lots of sandbars. Maybe there's a spot further south on Bribie island with some deeper water.

If you had a solid forecast and the means to do so I think a trip over to Moreton would be epic.

I'm used to dodging the sandbars as I've been learning at CT & Golden beach. It definitely added to the excitement when first getting up on the foil.
Bongaree Pt at Bribie would be my last resort, was hoping for something closer.

You would almost wonder if a ferry acrossing to Moreton Island would be the go. You could ride there with any wind with west in it.

Why use the ferry when you could just do a downwinder from Bongaree Pt to Moreton?

Bongaree it was deep right off the shore but not been for a few years.
Inskip in the inlet but further than Bongaree
If you have a boat and can water launch then over on the Tewah side of Lake Cootharaba
Uncle Ray used to use the North end of Chambers Island but that dates back to one bridge and no-Seaplane and if that is a possibility then around the boat ramp at Nojoor rd across river Twin Waters side might be better..
For that matter if you have that boat then Old Woman Island could be a base

When I did the site guide I struggled to find much...

What about at northern end north of Bulmer? From memory it didnt have the 20m high sand dunes close to shore line that are present further south closer to tangalooma. Just looking on google maps again and the northern part looks like an epic kite spot in the lagoons. when I went there I heard lots of horror stories about large bitey fish that would probably deter me from surfing.

20 years of kitesurfing on sunny coast. My advice GO SURFING honestly nowhere works properly the only close option is incoming tide at bulcock beach on dead westerly but still not worth consequences when **** goes bad

Agreed it's a waste of time & better off surfing but waves have been crap last few days. Been having a crack on the northern side of CT with incoming tide. Your up on the foil one minute, then your kites falling out of the sky the next lol.
Still strangely satisfies the foil addiction.
