Hi foilers,

Just like to give a few thoughts on the new Slingshot small SUP/Prone surf wing. Took advantage of a very light wind on the river with the 14.5m North Ace foil kite with 18m lines and attached the Infinity to the bottom of a new Fanatic board. Due to forgetting my harness, I jury rigged a quick seat harness from my tie down straps which did the job but was less than ideal so didn't really want any strong load due to discomfort around my groin and thighs.

That said, the Infinity on the Fanatic was amazing. It was up and flying at around a brisk walking pace and remained super stable. The wind was around 8 knots when I went out and increased to a little over 10 knots, then dropped back down to 6 knots again at the end. It was the most cruisey and fun session in the light winds of the river and as I was the only one out of the river for much of it, I pretty much had one of those zen sessions. Quiet and peaceful foiling up to around 15 knots board speed. The super low end of the Infinity made tacks and gybes really easy considering the kite didn't like the light wind and faster downwind carving turn so I slowed, cranked the kite and carved a nice tight turn on the foil to help me get pressure back in the lines to complete the down loops.

The short board and big wing on the 24" mast made pumping easy and I'm gagging to get the chance to put it through it's paces in the surf given the right conditions.

Super slow foiling was new for me as I'm usually trying to go fast. Certainly has it's place. If you're a looking for some cruisey fun or an easy prone wing, or for an easy SUP surf experience, then this is something to have a crack on.

If you've tried the Moses Onda, how does it compare to the Infinity 76?

Hey Duke,

I did have the Moses 71 Onda with me on the day but due to the very light wind, I chose the Infinity because I thought it would have much better low speed flight characteristics. I think the Onda will have a higher top speed and should be more manoeuverable. I think they will both be impressive foils but will have slightly different application. Slingshot Infinity for really small waves and the Onda for slightly larger and faster waves. This is all suposition of course and I will do a review of the Onda at the earliest opportunity.

Feel free to drop in and take it for a demo if you're keen. I'm thinking a foil demo day will be in order once the weather stops being so SH1T.

Just a note on the infinity 76. We have had that wing out in high speed overhead rollers and we were hitting 40-50 km/hr and found it WAY more stable than some of the smaller wings in our line up.

Apparently businesses can't rate businesses (green thumb), but I do rate that video. That's so sick! You boys have way too much fun. ??????

Besides the new wing, has much else changed, like mast/fuse/stab etc?
Also looking at the pics of the Infinity wing above - at the very end of the wing tips (where they turn down) it looks pretty fragile to me ??

The Slingshot Hover Glide Foil Platform has been modular without any issues since 2016




The new Infinity wing is absolutely bomb proof. Very solid, lots of glide and speed meaning you don't have to pump to keep up with fast waves but light weight enough still. The tips are thick enough not to be able to break off.

One thing it seems like they really nailed with these new slingshot wings is the speed range.

I saw a video comparing the 84cm slingshot with the biggest naish and takuma wings ( I tried to find it again to post here but couldn't) in the video they said all the wings started at about the same speed and the naish and takuma both topped out at around 15 knots the slingshot was still good to over 20 knots

These could prove to be very popular and useful crossover wings

The vid you are talking about was from Huston kite boarding I think. Phil Middler posts a lot of stuff should still be there to watch.

I couldn't get the X large Naish to go over 13 knots on flat water.

For pump ability . This is one of our smallest surf wings in the lineup. The Gamma or H2 as it used to be called

The big infinity wings are even easier!

So would this be an easy foil to learn on?

Thanks for finding the vid toppleover! DM I am keen for a foil demo day if there is one going. In the next month or so the nice light smooth seabreeze's will start to kick in and we will be in foil heaven!!

I reckon one of these big wings would go great in the everyday ocean chop we get here in Perth. Coupled with a really small one or no strut kite that just drifts so good you could forget about it. Just use the kite to get upwind and then carve and surf the chop downwind, would be dreamy

So where around Perth will I get to test my knees out on Monday?

Thanks Darren but after getting van and stocking up then forget stuff go back etc. we had to bolt to keep on Sheryl's schedule.

Did / Does anyone worry about losing the foil to Davey Jones's locker -- if so what did you do about it?
To-date I have lost a few watches, sunnies, fins, but nothing major (pride but - rebuilt overnight!!)
I have an urge to attach a leash even drill a hole through the back of the mast!!

The whole wind dial needs to be re-learnt -- what wind speeds for kite size..
I 98% SB downwinders 8m 10m 12m - (love light wind days)

Harness - currently I am wedded to my Ride engine harness (whole new lease on kiting life due to lower back trouble) with slider setup.. but I do have a seat harness Circa 2003 (somewhere).
So seat or Waist (always wondered about board short seat harness - like the look of the ION ones)?

Why the Pluck is the back of the mast so sharp....???
I have put my shoulder through 5-6 hangliding profile A-frame struts - nowhere near as sharp (thankfully no where near as solid either -- the foil mast does come across as very over engineered)..
I resisted taking some wet & dry and rounding it off a little - so far

Mast height - it came with a 61 cms... well I will give it a crack but ???

My target is slow low wind and swell / green rollers.. and being ok to cut up wind more than before.. Eyeing off a small foil kite but not sure on size as would like to be able to try snow kiting in the future and would like to double up.

Anyway -- have helmet, wettie and bouyancy vest plus a boat session for tomorrow.. to check the foil and board setup...
So any feedback on the above.. any tips - yes please...

TefGel is the shizzle, you gotta have it if you're in the ocean. There's actually a video on how to apply it properly, but I just run a bead down about half the length of the thread that gets buried, then smear it around with another bolt. So far, so good...

If you're putting the foil onto a "proper" board, I wouldn't worry. I've seen Tuttle boxes fall off, but not rails -- I assume you've an SS rail board.

I use a 10m as a light wind kite. 12 is a little too heavy and slow. Starting is the trick.

Sliding spreader bar will be good. Wouldn't worry about a seat, but try it.

61cm be fine for learning.

Skip the foil kite, stick with your wave kites. You'll have more fun, won't curse the screw-ups when you drop the kites and relaunch will be easier.

When you're learning, remember that you gotta ride faster than you're used to. You *can* ride slower, but that's like balancing a bicycle without forward motion. Getting the foil to fly by board speed is easier than trying to pop it up.

Had a blast behind boat - way faster than anticipated for a big wing..
Really like the lift characteristics... trends rather than accelerates so lifting up was not loop the loop just a gradual rise - but the breaches were silent (maybe the boat motor was covering the anticipated gurgle noise)..
On a big board like this - gotta be easier getting going using a kite's pull..
Wrapped with the attachment work local surf shop did with tracks - definitely heavily engineered (with out putting plates thru the board so have yet to attach a leash)
Will be experimenting moving the base a little further forward..
WIll slap Gopro on kite and post any real sillies (likely to be a lot)...

We have an island close offshore - that is a goal to ride waves there (beach brakes breaks) are often shallow along coast - I can end up carving my SB fins in the sand when dodging around

Yeah for learning the big board will good IMO -- get on top of it, use the kite to build board speed and let the foil fly on its own. Too many people try to pop/ollie it up before they've got the muscle memory to control it. Once you get used to it, a 145x48 board like mine will feel too big when the wind is up

Don't need a leash. I've only ever seen a couple of foils come off, both were deep Tuttle boxes, as were the ones I've read about -- those were a couple of years ago. Can't imagine you'd hit anything hard enough to lose the entire foil by breaking the rail out -- but it's up to you. IMO again you'd be better putting a board leash on your harness, for those occasions when you need to concentrate on your kite and don't want the board floating downwind through your lines... I've yet to get around to that

I find the bigger, slower the wing, the more I want it forward. I like my feet in the center strap positions, and prefer to be able to use my back foot to pop it up, rather than altering weight on the front foot.

I meant to document my beginner sessions, but the first 90 minutes was literally just trying to get out from the shallows, trying to get on the board then hitting the bottom and falling over. So, 88 minutes of trying to get to deep water

Learn to body drag with the foil. If you can't body drag, you probably can't ride at all so that's a good measure, but if you can, it's the fastest way to get to deep enough water. While you're learning, if you can get someone to ride the foil out to deep water then you follow them out on their board, then swap, that saves a lot of time and energy . . .

Watch out for the bottom. I doubt you'll bend the SS fuse like I did the LF one -- several times -- but you can break your board if you slam into the bottom and just ride it in. Or vent and nose dive straight down. I broke my unbreakable LF board doing that

Otherwise -- enjoy!

What was the original board? With mini-Tuttle boxes? I still have some of those fins from my old Dialer...

KK -- gd advice -- plan to KickOff at a local place called Golden Beach (Sheltered tidal waterway behind Bribie Island).
The board is a proto-type Sector 60 sold 2nd by DM (ActionSports) many moon's ago. Will still be usable with just fins too (subject to collateral damage from foil stuff-ups)
I value my knees after damaged (thankfully just) miniscus from one foot getting trapped in a strap on 2-up TT mishap so gone for foot hooks just on the front (so far)..
I will post an equipment review on the foil from a rookie to... major league beginner in a few months - but bound to be some more Qu's b4 then..
I was surprised by how quickly the board tripped of down-wind in very small chop on the weekend - the foil appeared to help this....

You only really want hooks or straps for water starts, in the beginning. Better to be able to completely step off the board...

Used a Slayer v1 in Thailand and now wished I'd just bought it on the spot.

Yeah they like to sod off downwind in a hurry great fun in light wind when you're fighting to keep a kite in the sky but then have to swim downwind to catch the board...!
