Couldn't answer my question by reading the old threads on shimming so new thread.

I am getting one of those split boards from Nobile for foiling but their foil isn't the best so going to carry on using a different brand one. The balance point for the Nobile foil is further forwards compared to (almost) any other foil on the market so I was trying to work out if by shimming the rear stabiliser, I could shift the centre of balance along the board and continue to use the footstrap holes on the board.

You can shift the foot position by shimming the stab. But that is not the way to do it as you will change the foil performance dramatically by doing so.


Shim the stab for ultimate performance and then set the foot straps to suit. If the current footstrap inserts are in the wrong place either drill in more or get a new board.

I started shimming the rear stab very recently and it allowed me to shift my rear foot back to where I wanted it. I'm not experienced or sensitive enough though to really notice if it performed worse. The foil definitely looks dodge with a washer under the rear stab bolt.

If you shim the mast/fuse connection at the rear, the board will point downward a bit, won't it? I guess it is so little as to not make any difference... I'll give it a crack.

If you then shim the front board/mast connection, you will end up with the whole wing assembly moved back relative to the board, but still level.
