Hi,
After some info:

Just wondering if anyone knows if AKSA insurance is suitable for Sail Melbourne?

And do you really need to join a yacht club etc?

Thanks.

I believe the AKSA insurance is OK but it is an ISAF event so you need to have YA membership as it is the organistation in this country looking after all things ISAF.

There was talk of sail Melbourne look into what it could do for AKSA members, but no word yet

It is not unreasonalbe to expect ISAF to not allow competitors if they are not members of it

It is however unfortunate that kiteracing is in a transition stage and we have to be members of two seperate organisation, but given it has all happened relativly quickly it is just the way it is, we just have to suck it up for a bit.

I have joined a local sailing club as a social member (because I dont race with them) and this gives me YA membership all for about $70, no big deal if you have gone and bought a race board, fins, at least three kites and are taking a week off work to compete in sail Melbourne and have a chance to mix it with some of the worlds best kiteracers

Also to temporarliy get around the YA membership number I just put down I was from some other counrty and it lets your rego go through without a YA number

The alternative is to not do The ISAF sail Melbourne regatta and do other non ISAF international events, O hang on none in Australia and they will cost sh!t loads more to attend

I posted these in an earlier sail Melbourne thread, they are the insurance details from the AKSA website used to fill in the sail Melbourne entry form.

YA do have a contact list of affiliated club on their site, check them out, you might find another local club more suitable
