Hey guys, any tips for repairing tiny dings in the trailing edge of the masts ( talking 1-2mm dings either directly into the trailing edge, or on one side ) ?

I ended up using sticky tape around the trailing edge, and a tiny dollop of clear laminating epoxy...

It worked so well almost no sanding required

Yep,

A drop of good epoxy resin and clear tape is key. You can even use Cyano acrylate (Supaglue) for tiny scratches and chips. Honestly, for a 1mm chip in the TE, I'd also sand out depending on the foil as it can be hard to make the epoxy stick and hold

As above.

For a quick beachside fix, super glue and baking soda, and some sandpaper can get you going asafp.
Baking soda sets the super glue immediately and gives a bit of volume to sand back to flush.

Of course, the better long-term fix is epoxy. It just takes time to cure and requires more elbow grease to sand back.

How does the superglue / baking soda last over time? Is it similar to epoxy, or better off doing the epoxy at home.....I've got colloidal silica I could mix in for volume, but it changes the colour and wanted the mast to stay black.

My "go to" for little dings and chips is PC-7 or PC-11 epoxy paste. PC-7 is dark grey and a little thicker, PC-11 is white. Buy it at Bunnings.

Mix it up. Whack it on. Smooth it with a wet finger (metho, water or spit). Tape over. Maybe sand the next day.

I've done major repairs with it and lots of ding/chip repairs. I only use epoxy for repairs that need carbon or glass fabric or chop, or to inject into voids.

Epoxy is better.

But if you pull the foil out and want to go kiting now and see a chip and go ****! and want a quick fix. Superglue is where its at. If you have 24hours for a cure. Then smash out the epoxy repair.
