Yes you would need your own GPS
All the windsurfer GPS crowd have the gt31.
You hand in your memory card at the end of the day and they download your data onto a laptop so they can compare the results for the 1 hour against everyone and determine the placings.

Unfortunately if it is this Saturday the Sydney kitepower series will be on and most of the racers will be there
But if it's sunday we will be there

Looking like this sunday will be on guys.
The windsurfers usually launch from the end of coal point in Noreaster, but this is a little dodgy for kites, so we may launch from Rathmines and kite out to the area behind the sand island at swansea.

Got in for one and left from coal point today Ric, wasn't really an issue launching just Landing had to come in really hot to get the kite to land on the grass. Was an awesome session and found some good flat runway for some epic speed runs. Gusty as all hell but was awesome. Would have been interesting if I had a gps on today.

Did you water launch?
Nobys was east most of the day so makes it easier.
to much north and it is sheltered a fair bit in the little bay

Would def love to find a better launch out the end of the point cause the wind is way better in that part of the lake

OK guys it looks good for tomorrow, so who is just talk and who is gunna do it!

1. You will need to either pay the entry fee for the series which is $50
Or can support and join the only club in NSW so far that supports kites. I think the payment options are about $250 for annual membership and we race all year round almost every Saturday plus free entry to other events such as pulbah island marathon and the GPS series.

2. Have a GPS that you can get a track out of in GPX format and email.
That means you need software on your computer that can download the data file from your gps

3. Be on the water at 3pm in the area of the course with your GPS turned on and race as fast as you can for 1 hour.
If you have some sort of gps but it doesnt output the correct file why not join in the series anyway for some fun and use what you have then just compare the results with all the others once they are published!

At this stage the windsurfers will launch from the end of coal point at the boat ramp and sail between here and swansea for 1 hour, a lot of this is behind some sand islands and is fairly flat but a bit gusty.

If there is to much north in the breeze from ene it might be to dodgy for kites to launch here so the next best option will probly be rathmines park, still a little sheltered in a NE but no issues with jetties and moored boats if you cant launch.
If I launch from here I will probly hit the water no later than 2.30 and sail up to the area.
All there was last time to signal the start was when it was 3pm a flag was raised on a jetty at the boat ramp, you dont even need to be able to see the flag, just be aware it's 3pm and going fast ;)

My average for the hour was only about 18 think.
my best 10sec was 27
my best 500mt was 25
I was way overpowered on my 11 and there was a bit of weed about, was the only kite and found it hard to get in a groove with the chop.
I went downwind a bit were the chop turned into small waves and found it better to sit on a higher speed for longer

With that speed you will have to come up next time ;)

was a blast doing it will be looking to do more now, if i stayed in under the flats it would have been a hell of a lot quicker but not sure i could handle an hour of 500mtr runs haha
