I had been seriously considering buying a Switch Element after waiting too long for Switch's mono strut, which is now abandoned. Switch will release instead (hopefully November)Heliums in all sizes providing a specific foiling/wave kite... I suppose light with high drift capabilities

I am using my Reo's as well for foiling, biggest being a 10. I also have been using a 4 Uno for above 22knots. They all work a treat. If I ever get into snow kiting though I would consider the new Ozone foil kite in a 12. That would get me out in lower winds plus the hang time on that kite looks pretty amazing.

I have a quiver of Elements I use for foiling and SB. They're very good kites and excellent value.

They are wonderful surf kites. Really nice down the line.

They're not as lifty as a race kite so they're not so good for flying foot switches and tacks on the foil. They're just fine for everything else.

I think most of the surf orientated kites would work well. You really want good drift and good de-power for non race foiling.

I have a north mono 12m for lighter days on SB but for a smaller kite (7/9m) I'm thinking 3 strut is better since you can use it for SB in more conditions and better top end....at this size I'd place more value on gust handling qualities/top end/turning circle over kite weight ... plus I don't want canopy flutter...

You first need to ask yourself what kind of foiling you're mostly interested in and what wind range you want to foil in, and this will dictate which kites are more suitable for you.

Seriously, any kite can work well for foiling. I've foiled on just about any type of kite from 3m inflatable trainer kites to 17m 5 strut kite, foil kites, c-kites...and guess what, they all work and are good fun.

There are so many things you can do on foil, from focusing on light winds to riding waves, racing, jumping, etc.

I think brands coming out with ''foil'' specific kites are mainly just about marketing and getting you to purchase more kites.

Anyone getting into foiling could use their existing quiver and have a great time.

Slingshot sst does both well

the Cab drifter works really well as well as the Cab Fx I fly both kites in 9M(Fx) and 7M(drifter) and have no issues

I really like Slingshot Rev's for foiling.
Also they're an underrated all round kite... Wave's aren't a problem or boosting wake style riding. Cheap quiver TOO!

Revs were great....only as long as the bridles were in tact. Those P/lines are a pain in the arse. If they were not perfect the kites would fly like dogs.

Exactly right.. Easy to make or get made for 20 odd buck's if it's been kite looped and they have twisted through the pulleys and shortened. Then upgrade the pulleys and you're set! Very light feeling kite and goes upwind and drifts very well..

There are only a few circumstances I can think of where you want something extra out of a kite for foiling.

Very light winds. You want a kite that really helps to stay in the air in light winds. Often you're foiling in very little wind and a heavy kite can get stuck at the edge of the window and drop slowly into the water. You need something light and agile that you can whip around the sky and keep the apparent wind going.

Tacking. It's much easier to tack and to swap feet on the fly with a lifty kite that will support your weight just on the bar.

Speed. You get the best speed out of a foil in smooth water with a really forward flying kite. With surf kites you're not going fast enough in lighter winds, or you're using drift to depower going downwind.
