Hi everyone. This is just a quick msg to anyone who has recently been diagnosed with RRV.
I have never written on a forum in my life until this, however after a boat trip to the mentawais in late april early may i was diagnosed with RRV. It has now been 4 weeks to the day since i first contracted symptoms.
Like a lot of people who contract this disease i started reading forums on other peoples experiences and was fairly spun out as its basically all negative and most experiences are of the extreme variety.
Anyway my point to getting on this forum was to say that its not all doom and gloom.
I was housebound and really unwell for 10 days. at about the 2 week mark i was getting out of the house and although lacking a lot of energy was starting to get around and get on with life. By the 3 week mark until 4 weeks i was starting to go back to the gym all be it very lightly and was feeling 90% of my normal self.
From the 4 week mark onwards i have been very very close to feeling extremely normal and energy levels and my brain function is close to normal and i will likely get back in the water surfing in the next day or two.
In summary I'm not saying i may not have a recurrence of the symptoms and i have to be careful i don't over do things which seems to be the reason for people relapsing. I will also add that i had the luxury of being able to rest properly early on in the piece as well as eating the best foods possible to fuel my body. I was also aided in seeing a naturopath early on who put me on some Zinc and vitamin B supplements to aid immune recovery.
Obviously everyone is different but this has been my experience and i just wanted to highlight that its not all doom and gloom and with a bit of luck and in looking after yourself i feel that some people may not experience the hectic symptoms that you tend to read on all or most of the other forums on this disease.
Cheers Daniel
