nice to see that our prime minister has felt the need to suck up to trump by handing over 150 million
of tax payer dollars so America can stuff around in space.
surely that money could be much better spent on social services.

Depends.. If they create several thousand jobs and generate large incomes from satellite sales or launches they could actually profit from it.

Just another scam. He does not care as it's not his money being wasted. The income tax funds this idiocy. A dodgy tax brought in to pay for the killing of people is now used for all sorts of other nonsense.

They have been talking about this project for about 6 months now so it will be interesting to see if it works.

We spend plenty on "social services" in my opinion. Im actually all for science, space exploration and my tax dollars going towards it. Fortunately you will get a chance to make your feelings known in 3 years when he stands for election again. Would you fancy a little wager on the outcome?

It's like d?j? vu , ( wow that's got to be the best spell check ever ) !
We were part of the fun moon landing .
I presume we're not just handing over a chunk of money for suck sake .
Cos we're down under , ( dark side ) , on the other side of earth , we could be important .
Its kind of job investing ?
And exciting . Good to see our name on this .
Just going to be dead rock.
Unfortunately , because what we know , there won't be fantastic toys and films and imagination . It's just dead rock

It's not just dead rock. They claim there is water at the South Pole. The Indian probe aiming to confirm that crashed a couple of weeks ago.
If it is there, it means a long stay moon base will be built which will be used to help a Mars shot.

We have plenty water here ,
So what if there is water there , are we going to bring it back .?
Seriously , I love sci fi , but it's just dead rock with a splash of water ?
It would be soo much easier to fix here than try again on Mars ?
Sadly we will kill ourselves
OMG!

Its Ok , I'm a glass half full kind of guy.
Im trying to live the rest of my life with optimism . And I think I will .
My kids ...... have a chance .....grand kids mmmmmmm !
After that .... , not lookin good

I've never been able to understand this mentality that includes "us" into the idea that there may be water on mars, or that perhaps there is some on "the moon".

How will that affect the average Jimmy on the street?

The answer is is that it won't. Now matter how habitable, how easy to reach or how attractive to human life any planet may be it is going to have precisely exactly sweet f^ck all benefit to you, I or the other 26 million Australians. Nor for that matter will it be of benefit to virtually any of the rest of the worlds population.

So let's stop talking about space travel and colonisation of some poor unfortunate celestial body by human beings as though it is going to "save" us.

Please.

I suppose that if you had been an African 80 000 years ago you would have been busy bad mouthing those dreamers building rafts to get to the islands that they could see.

I'd have been more than bad mouthing the f^ckers if they were using the fruit of my wife's labour to fuel their dreams.

Never enough money for the things that matter. Always plenty for pipe dreams, war and their mates.

And space exploration will be ultimately funded through privatised mineral exploration and mining rights. Licenses granted to those with power and influence. These will eventually be fought over in wars and the average Joe will be sent to do their bidding and to die of course.

Without doubt we will export our inherent dysfunction into space and the whole idea will be sold on the premise of fckn jobs.

What a bunch of stupid dangerous monkeys with a developed neo cortex.

Judging by behavior commonly reported with regard to military aggression and environmental degradation it's arguable that we are still in the trees.

The ones whats left that is.

Perhaps we should pile money into exploring how we could thrive on earth as a species?

Nah f^ck it. Let's just export our ignorance to far away places.

It makes me wonder how long till the politicians realise that they are running out of time till the kids of today will be able to vote in a referendum on climate policy
if ever they would allow for the public to have an opinion on this important topic.

It's all a smoke screen. The $150mil is for "tickets" for Scomo, his family, mates and some other "dignataries" including George Pell cause they need someone to help the children toughen up, and it's so they can leave this planet to an "Elysium" like station based in space, due to climate change. It's all there in black and white!
